Teaching your children how to trade

Why I ask? to understand the psychology of happiness of people. Since trading, I am really into psychology!!!! You know what , for you, a happy
life means, so

What is preventing you from doing each year :
* Greece for 2 weeks instead of a week, more than during your 3 favorite years?
* Canada for few weeks and relax ( free of charge at his pool) , more than during your favorite years?
* Cayman Island for one month, instead of few weeks, more than during your favorite years??

* Have you considered working in the nightlife party circuit?
As an example, some people's job is to get paid to party!!!!

* watch tv and videogaming : why does it bring you happiness?

Fair enough. For me, happiness is being completely free to be able to enjoy myself and do the things I like doing.

Money!!! :) Or even if I could afford it, and had a 'job', they might not let me take the time off work.

* Have you considered working in the nightlife party circuit?
As an example, some people's job is to get paid to party!!!!
I thought about becoming a holiday rep in ibiza when I was younger, but I had a friend who did it and hated it. It's not as fun as it sounds. It's still the people who are actually on holiday (as opposed to working) who have all the fun :)

* watch tv and videogaming : why does it bring you happiness?
Surely there's a hell of a lot of people out there who watch TV and play videogames etc! There's a reason it's so popular. Why does anything bring anyone happiness?

You have the chance to know what makes you happy: why not make your life around your
notion of happiness?

I was more actually thinking of touring agent for those who seek the nighlife experience.
Some hilday tour agents I have seen, seemed to enjoy the trip and parties more than the visitors.

this is what you wrote:...could mold a profitable day trader out of a mentally challenged or mentally ill son or daughter.
I have no high IQ but that's irrelevant as you tell that mentally challenged or mentally ill people can become good traders. So you make it sound that intelligence is not necessary at all, even the biggest idiots can be good traders.

Can you tell me then:
  1. why +90% never succeed? Maybe they are mentally not ill enough or not stupid enough?
  2. why big funds only want highly qualified PHD's or math wizards? Possible explanation might be that at some point genius approaches insanity and idiocy.... which makes them good traders.

Ironically, considering you are the OP, you utterly failed to appreciate the point I was making. Price action/DOM/intuitive day traders can conceivably pass their wisdom on to future generations and encourage proper trading practices by sharing intimate firsthand guidance and heuristics which are not offered by PA educators despite their glamorous marketing attempts.

Pattern recognition and analytic skills are FAR less important than their rule-following behaviors, as you hint at in your previous posts, surely this can be communicated and passed on to even less gifted progeny?

When I was about 19, I lived off of a lump of money that was left to me for a few years. I did nothing but wake up late, party, play videogames and watch TV, Took holidays etc etc.
It was pure bliss and I could have lived like that for eternity if only the money didn't run out!
I guess it's a matter of us all being different and other people wanting different things out of life than me?
And how did you end up here?????
Or was it wishful thinking that you would make a few millions as trader and then continue your real life ?

Not sure what you mean?
But I started a small business when I was younger. Gave me lots of free time with enough money to be able to just about survive and I became interested in trading through a relative, so i've been trying to learn to trade ever since.
(and no. Certainly never dreamed about making millions from trading!! lol)

I disagree, this is not like becoming a brain surgeon or rocket scientist. A parent who day trades for a living and has high emotional intelligence, motivation, and communication skills could mold a profitable day trader out of a mentally challenged or mentally ill son or daughter.

LOL, really? This is much harder than being a brain surgeon, there are rules and examples of what the normal and abnormal brain should look like, memorize all of them and be able to do so and yet I have met thirty year losers in trading and they will never get it.

I have a stepson who has ADHD, I taught him day trading when he was 15yo and he did well but after couple months didn't like it and quit, he didn't know it but I kept trading that account through the years. He is one of the smartest people I know in terms of IQ but dumber than sack of rocks when it comes to life. I can't teach people life, you can offer direction but you can't force people to "mold" them into anything they don't want to do.

Son now 37yo and getting married next year, he is going to get his account back before he gets married so he can buy house of his dreams, I will be at his side when looking for houses and get deal done. It funny, week ago he asked me if he could learn now as he has reasons to make a better life.

What is high emotional intelligence? Two opposite values.

I'm looking to make enough from the market so that they never have to need to worry about any kind of 'work' or learning to trade themselves etc.
I want their life to be one of uninterrupted fun. Never any stress or depression that 'work' brings. Just non-stop holidays, fun, complete freedom and relaxation.

What happens if you die early and they are 30yo? You think you have prepared them for becoming broke? Teaching them "fun", they will rip through all the money you left them.

I am happiest when I work, but then I have businesses I started and don't see it as work at all, perhaps a way to interact with people, cause that is very limited in trading. I love my life and have fought to keep going, I don't see failures as losing, they are opportunities to do something a different way.

Have a fun weekend all.

And you missed mine.
I started this thread from my point of view and my way of trading. You have no clue how I trade so you don't know what is needed to trade like me.

What you tell can work for your trading, but is no general rule. Mine isn't either.
Some systems can be very simple, other can bevery complex. That defines the required qualifications.
To me analytical skills are the most important part. The problem is finding non random behavior in the market. For that you have to analyze. Without analyzing you cannot solve the problem. A good analysis is the basis of all the rest.

I was just curious as your profile does not seem to be the usual traders profile. :)

But if you enjoy life, the rest doesn't matter.

I see.
No, I guess you're correct. I think most traders here on elitetrader are MUCH more intelligent than me and come from professional backgrounds and have good degrees etc etc. That's probably why I'm still searching for success after so long and everyone else here seems rather successful in their trading!
I'm good at getting over the daily frustration of trading, though, as I can have fun where I find it and am easily pleased in general! :)
Even 'happy' where others here would surely see no reason to be!! lol
(especailly considering my health concerns at such a young age)
