You are asking the wrong question. Why has the general discourse on the internet evolved from typically having polite, mindful discussions involving people of all stripes to continually abusing, trolling, and attacking others for amusement. I will note this trend greatly accelerated after Trump was put into office.
Take a look at this thread, I am the only one addressing the question WRB raised about schools -- attempting to provide information while also providing links to sources to back up my assertions and opinions. Prior 2016 most discussions were like this rather than the continual abuse, disinformation and trolling that we see today (this thread being a classic example of this behavior from the typical set of posters who continually act in this manner).

I'd go by the Brighterly stats up there before that chart you posted, for the simple reason that the chart shows two different surveys used between 2016 and 2021. How can that be considered valid? All things would have to be equal, and using two different survey methods certainly is not.
