Quote from CaptainObvious:
And why is that? It's because the poor are being picked clean and left for dead. Let me try to explain, or at least give my opinion.
In times such as we're experiencing we need to think longer term. We have adopted a very short term economic view, especially in corporate America. During these changing times would it not make sense to view employee's as asset's to be developed, rather than costs to be cut? Sure, in the short term it makes no financial sense to keep dead weight, but longer term it makes perfect sense to develop exisiting employees with better and more appropriate skills rather than just cut them loose to fend for themselves. I also believe those at the upper strata of our economy have a moral obligation to do this. And if you don't buy that, just look at it as a common sense, long term investment in your company.
The question is, have those at the very top become so far removed from the rest of society that they can no longer show any compassion, or even use common sense in their decision making? If we are, or ever were that great shining light on the hill, we need to set an example of humanity which is much more appealing than what we have become.
