The no taxes bit relates to when the island was in Swedish hands a few hundred years ago. They made it a free port, as it is one of the few island in the carib that could not be used for growing sugar.

There have been rumblings from Paris that it needs to be brought into line, but when the frog authorities sent some tax inspectors to the island, they threw them off!!!!

So, so far untouched by the iniquity of tax.

Long may it continue.

I forgot to mention it has some of the most beautiful turquoise sea in the world.

At least Frenches are not taxed by France if they live abroad 6 months + 1 day ... contrary to US.

Slovakia is as civilized/peaceful/safe a country as any other fellow EU/NATO member state ... and Bratislava is doubtless as decent a party place as many other central European cities. Just in case: Vienna and Bratislava are supposedly the two closest capital cities in the world, only a short 64 km or 40 miles away.
