Is there a comparison between the U.S. withdrawal in Kabul and the flight from Saigon in 1975? “None whatsoever. Zero,” Mr. Biden said. “What you had is you had entire brigades breaking through the gates of our Embassy. Six if I’m not mistaken. The Taliban is not the South, the North Vietnamese army. They’re not—they’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance where you’re going to see people being lifted off the roof of a embassy” in Afghanistan.

There was no path to victory in Afghanistan these past 20 years no matter which party is running the show.

The lesson from history is you either stay out of a country or invade and control 100%. There is no in betweem anywhere that worked in history. Afghanistan has been fighting invaders since the 1970s so no matter what anyone did it was going to be a shit show. No one else cares so let the Taliban have it and isolate them so their crazy does not get exported. If India, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran etc. don't care about maniacs in charge then as long as they play in their own backyard, nothing you can do.

Agreed, unless you’re prepared to keep boots on the ground, you cannot control an area.

But how-about clearing the area of all civilian and friendly non-combatants, removing or destroying all munitions and supplies, and telling your Afghan counter-parts “we’re outta here” before getting on the plane and pulling out?
 
Trump was structuring a "conditional" withdrawal where the Taliban were incentived to allow for an orderly withdrawal in steps based upon their behavior. Such a process could have and was stopped at anytime the Taliban became aggressive which was delaying the process but we were definitely drawing down without this chaos.

Biden has completely botched anything that resembled that process and is currently hiding in his basement... again. What a freaking putz.

yup, no matter who was in power, they were gonna eat shit for pulling the band aid off, it's why Trump pussied out and did a 180 on Afghanistan. Biden gets a few hits, but cons would like to forget who put us there in the 1st place.

We should have classified our 2500 troops as peacekeepers, like we are in South Korea
The status quo was a check on the Taliban, China, Iran and Russia...and it worked...no causality for18 months
The second post not so much...Nothing can compare to legitimizing the Taliban then to run away when they enter Kabul
and to allow them to empty an airport prison full of Al qaeda fighters

How long will it take a group of Al qaeda fighters to come up from the Southern border as a sleeper cell
