Take down confederate flag, and change street names in public places?

This is a useful issue if only to demonstrate to people who are unaware of the raw hatred many progressives have for the South and the people who live there.

If the idea were not so popular to conservatives, liberals would probably be in favor of jettisoning the South form the rest of the country. Instead, they are colonizing it with illegal immigrants and retirees from New Jersey.

Ok, so you're saying it was ok to put the flag on stuff 6 years ago, because it wasn't unpopular, but today it is so it's not ok?

Your argument on this is entirely about the popularity and not about the morality of the issue?

I think it's about time people woke up. Most of them, anyway. The flag symbolized and represented oppression. How is that in any way consistent with the values of present day America? And this on government buildings? That was one hell of a deep sleep.

In my voting lifetime democrats have become their opposite... they are now 1970s Nixon republicans by a different name.

dems have gone from JFK to proto Soviets.

"Present-day America" does not include the Olde South. They've never felt that they were part of the rest of the country. Even today they talk of secession. There are those who believe that Lincoln made a mistake by not allowing them to secede. If he had, they would be pretty much on a par with third-world countries.

The South lives in a time warp. Still. And it does no good to cling to the hope that things will get better when the older generation dies. That kid who shot up the Charleston church was what? 21? As long as they are indoctrinated by their elders, which will be just this side of forever, this situation will continue. Their end of the gene pool may be shallow, but it will likely never dry up entirely.
