TA and Volume - any relationship

Quote from Mut1ey:

Being relatively green on trading - I'm receiving conflicting information. On the one hand volume is the main, reliable, tradable indicator. On the other, TA such as Stochastics and MACD combined are.

I have two questions:
1) Is there any relationship between underlying volume and TA indicators
2) Which is best - volume or TA?

Cheers

Volume has everything to do with TA:

1) Volume dictates price.

2) Volume + urgency= Momentum

3) Momentum is a fuel

4) The best technical setup is worthless in the absence of momentum

May the trend be with you...

Hi Murray t turtle -

Afraid I may have misphrased my post above - sure I can see price is hugely relevant - I guess I was just wanting to isolate my question to volume as a primary indicator vs TA as a primary indicator.

50c - thanks for that.

Mut1ey;

Price helps.
Moving averages help & convergance of them helps.
Volume helps.

Reading and lots of work helps-, however
try ''Volume breaks out you buy'' in a sideways trend you will get slaughtered.:cool:

Volume helps, doesnt always precede price;
$XAU has no volume. The streets are paved with gold.

Most of our analytics are based on volume range and volatility you may want to read this to get an idea how it all works.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

So if I understand, consensus seems to be that TA uses price, time and volume to feed into its analysis. In which case, how important is raw volume?

Let me explain my agenda for this thread - I wanted a view as to the validity of using a data feed that does NOT include raw volume. But does include TA indicators, vs paying more to get a feed that does include raw volume as well as analytics. If there is no significant benefit in paying more for raw volume, I would rather do without it.

I should also add that I'm looking to day-trade Index Futures - namely the DOW.

Thanks
