T and VZ pair, earnings question

VZ announced today. They beat by 0.02, but weak forward and down YOY, and a Boarish price holding steady at minus 3% from yesterday's close. The market is displeased.

AT&T announces earnings on Tuesday 10/25. My thinking is, there's no shortage of demand for Communications services; it's certainly not a declining industry. Who took this business from VZ? AT&T is the #1 suspect.

Forthwith, can we expect good earnings and forward from AT&T? T also downspiked this morning, almost perfectly aligned with VZ's downspike; I suspect an industry force. VZ dragged everyone down. Now, however, their stock is gently and subtly bullish.

I bought T playing the bounce this morning, but I hesitate to sell, because it has potential to be a real ca$h cow.

Thoughts?

Wow... big volume spike and price swing just now. Maybe they read this thread? :D Some news about a Time Warner takeover... probably just a smokescreen... trying to shake out the weak. Why would they release this at 3:45pm?

I am not moving. I tried and tried... my mind says sell, but my heart and gut won't let me click the button. 2-1, majority rules.

We shall see if the market punishes me with impunity for my belief.

Game-changer! (Actually, really. At least potentially. Depending on what they do together).

It's a red herring. They're trying to distract from the upcoming earnings.

Business Insider said:
The talks are informal, and neither side has hired an adviser, according to the report.

Bloomberg said:
Senior executives at AT&T Inc. and Time Warner Inc. have met in recent weeks to discuss various business strategies including a possible merger, according to people familiar with the matter.

Get the slips of the financial news agencies any day and it will surprise you how many statements of an implied semi-official nature they print. The authority is some "leading insider" or a "prominent director" or "a high official" or someone "in authority" who presumably knows what he is talking about.

Can we add "People Familiar with the Matter" to that list?

The overwhelming majority of the bullish articles printed on the authority of unnamed directors or insiders convey unreliable and misleading impressions to the public.
