Suspend "Cash for Clunkers"?

Quote from jprad:

Considering how little regard they have for contract law, like employment contracts, or bankruptcy law and a host of other things they've already trampled on since Obama danced into office I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they retroactively void any deal to purchase a non-American car under this program.
Yea cause Bush never trampled on the Constitution.

Quote from fkbsuhites:

where were you when Bush was pissing on the constitution?

How sophomoric can you be?

Just because I think the Democrats are assholes does not mean I think the Republicans are saints.

You're defending a program and you don't have the first clue what's going on with it?

Who gives a fuck about what the Republiclowns have to say. President Obama has kept us safe from the terrorist and the markets have confidence in him and the Democrats. Boo hoo if the current administration spends few billions on consumers, that's just a drop of water to what Bush and Paulson gave their friends in oil and financial indutries.

This is my post from few months ago. I hope you guys did not short this market.

Markets have done better under Democrats, why fight this strong trend. Thank God for President Obama who has rescued the economy and kept us safe from a terrorist attack on our soil.

Currently the best bet is to go long. There are going to be corrections on the way but history is on the bull's side. Buy any dip.

A dip is a 7% decline in the S&P from the high.

Sell when a Republicon becomes a president.

Quote from Sandybestdog:

Yea wow they have to take possession AND destroy it. Whew! Complicated. What’s that take, an extra 10 minutes? Boy if we can’t figure out how to do this complicated program, I wonder how we’re ever going to solve world hunger. Chuckie Schumer just wants his face on TV.

Hey Sandy, I think this is the process:
1) you turn in a clunker and have it destroyed
2) pick out a new car
3) then apply for the credit

If your application is denied:

The clunker you drove in with cannot take you home (unless you want to push it home)

Does this make sense?

OK lets go over this really slowly so you can catch on here.

Quote from saxon22: What I find dishonest and shady was the over the weekend change of official MPG numbers by the gov. agency to make some cars MPG go from 18 to 19. That was uncalled for and stupid.
To which I replied and asked:

Got that? He said the gov was switching mileage numbers and I simply asked for a link or whatever because I had not read anything about that. This really isn’t a hard concept to get.

Yep, got it quite clearly.

You like to go around and bash people without having your ducks in a row.

The changes he mentioned didn't happen last night, they happened last week and have been reported by several sources in print and electronically.

Quote from TGregg:

If there were a Biblical-type end of the world prophecy from a financial perspective, it might include a passage like:

"And they shall believe that the way to goodness and plenty is through massive taxes, government control of everything, excessive borrowing and the destruction of property. And the more misery these things bring, the fiercer the cries for more taxes, more government, more borrowing and more destruction until there is none left to pay the taxes, none to be ruled by the government, no money to lend the government and no property to be destroyed. And then, they shall know that they choose this path with full awareness of what was to come."

Not saying it's the end of the world, but I am saying it's a step closer rather than a step further away.

?

I logged off to read every response to this post. There wasn't one. Guess everybody knows the path we are on.

Read the story a previous poster relayed here, the dealers have to take possession of the clunker and destroy the engine before they can even apply for the credit.
That sounds bogus to me. I know several employees at a couple different dealerships in AZ. They do not scuttle the vehicles until after the rebate is received from the government. In other words, the vehicle sits in a parking lot behind the service department until the finance department gives the OK. Other dealerships could do it different, but it seems to me they would get burnt exactly one time before they changed their procedures.

Nope. Sure doesn't. Sounds like a great way for a new car dealership to eat $3500/$4500. I can't imagine a sales manager dumb enough to do it that way, but anything's possible.
