I think cash for clunkers is doing a good job of kick starting the faltering auto business so far but it is too early to tell if this will lead to other consquences
Yea sorry but the major glitch is on you. The dealer, not the customer, applies for the rebate. They sell the 15k car for 10.5k (a loss) and then get reimbursed by the feds. You think the dealer is stupid? They arenât going to sell a car at a major loss if thereâs a chance they wonât get the rebate.Quote from MattF:
Few glitches eh.
Web servers crashing and hardly anyone can log in to process stuff.
Phone lines jammed and busy and nobody can get through.
Paperwork processing so backlogged it'll take probably weeks now to get through.
Angry customers calling YOU (the salesman) demanding where their rebate is...and then wanting to return their car if they don't get it which will possibly cost you commission and the dealership more money.
Yep. Just a few glitches.

The opposition to this program around here is that people are so shocked that a government stimulus plan was so incredibly successful that people want to shut it down. Look at what just a billion did. Imagine if we used the 25+ they gave to Citi to do something better than pay their bonus checks.
First off, heâs wrong about it taking 2-3 months to pass the legislation. Looks like it is only taking a few days. But Iâm trying to figure out how he comes up with the 22,000 figure. What is the point of that? Itâs simple, it costs $3500 or $4500. How in the world will it cost $45,354. Sounds like typical talk from people who make excuses as to why we donât have any money to help Americans but always seem to have some to go to war.Quote from nutmeg:

Subprime lending under Bushs watch. He could have stood up to Greenscam and Bernankrupt, but he didnt. Republicans can shout tax cuts all they want, that aint gonna change much of anything. Nobody cares about a tax cut when ther job just got shipped to China or when the ceo is making 400 times what they are.
Wow you really need to spend a little less time listening to Sean Hannity. Do you really think that banks were pressured into giving people 100% LTV mortgages without employment, income, or asset verification? Think about what you said. Can you provide any proof whatsoever that banks were pressured into giving 400k loans to people making $8 an hour? Just because Fox News tells you something, doesnât mean itâs true. Letâs just face it, banks got greedy. Free market capitalism went way overboard on this one. The Fed created the boom so it could bail out all their buddies during the bust.Quote from skylr33:
You are such a dumb shit, it's not funny. Bill Clinton's administration created the sub prime mortgage market. They pressured the lending institutions to give these ridiculous sub prime loans. Don't you remember O'l "Clit"on saying that home ownership was a right, and not a privilege???
"Clit"on wanted everyone with that 500 fico credit score, and who makes $8.00 an hour, to get that $400k home.
Busy actually tried twice to stop the practice of sub prime lending because he saw the disastrous implications it would have later on. Well golly gee, look at what happened!!!!! The only reason Bush couldn't put a stop to this idiotic Demo"crap" program was because the royal douche bag Demo"crap"s in congress wouldn't support, nor dream of ending a program created by O'l slick Willie "Clit"on. Of course Bubba Boy didn't think of the consequences either, but then again, he was too busy getting his dick sucked by "the true lipstick wearing pig," named Lewinsky. He was also too busy worrying about his impeachment, going to prison for lying under oath, ruining his marriage, and wondering where his next piece of ass would come from.
Again, you are truly a dumb shit of epic proportions!!!
