[Survey] Building a trade-level analytic tool for individual traders/investors

Hi fellow traders/investors,

I am a grad student at Georgia Tech and have been trading option spreads for a few years. I am building a product as my master's project. Based on my preliminary research in behavioral finance and data visualization, a trade-level tracker/journal that helps avoid repetitive mistakes due to bias may be useful. I would like some feedback from the community for more directions. Therefore, I am recruiting participants for my survey to understand your motivation and analytical needs. Results of the study will inform the design of the tool.

The survey should not take more than 10 minutes. There is no compensation.

Eligibility for the survey
- You are 18 years or older and have your own real-money brokerage account(s)
- You have been, within the past 12 months, actively managing your account(s) and trade financial instruments such as stocks, bonds, funds, derivatives, cryptos, etc.
- You are NOT physically in the EU or China.

Lol, shows you have academic tunnel vision. Wording and all is great, but you forgot the most important: what's in it for the survey taker? Why would anyone be motivated to take that survey that seemingly ONLY benefits YOU. At the very least you should offer to share the results of the survey or make your research and studies accessible to those who help you conduct your research, otherwise it becomes apparent you see us merely as your lab rats. If you don't understand how this world and humans operate then I wonder how successful you could possible be in trading that necessitates the reading and interpretation of human emotions.

Also, why are you explicitly excluding EU residents? If you want to focus on US markets only then you should mention that but to exclude a subset by name is a bit weird.

Thanks a lot for your feedback! At the end of the survey, I have a place for participants to voluntarily enter an email for project updates.

My goal is definitely to build a product valuable to the community. But as an academic research at this stage, there are institutional requirements on how I can word or promote my content. Really sorry for the very cold wording... I totally feel you. As investors, we both understand value well and know that treating people as lab rats does not create sustainable value.

I cannot collect data from people residing in EU or China due to data regulations (GDPR and PIPL). Sorry for the confusion.

Man, for the time it took you to write up this damn post, you could have done the guy a favor and be done with the survey already. :rolleyes:
 
I don't do this out of principle. I have asked people for help during my advanced degree research period in the past but I always made sure they get something for their work in return. Not cash payments but I always promised to keep them in the loop and to share my results. And I delivered what I promised. And I acknowledged their participation in my master thesis. I don't get the impression OP shows any interest other than serving himself. At the least his initial wording was extremely condescending and self serving.

And the comment on EU residents and data and privacy laws is bollocks, a simple disclaimer and acknowledgement of the EU survey taker would solve this. I have done this before and know what I am talking about. Something feels a little off here.

Thanks! Totally understand. I can promise you the info are honest and genuine. If you think the 10 minutes price tag for a shaky student project commitment is overpriced, you are more than welcome not to enter the trade! People may have different levels of interest in this topic so everyone has a different fair value judgement. I know it looks like I am looking for my TSLA $3000 believers for this project lol... However, I do appreciate your skepticism. You may join the study later when a more mature prototype is ready.
 
All good, and you changed your tone a lot which I really appreciate. I would recommend you to adjust your wording in your survey request a little to make it more appealing for others to join in should you plan to disseminate this request on other websites. Just a recommendation.
