Surprising study shows California is actually a low-tax state

I don't want to appear a socialist but if you are rich sales tax is irrelevant. If you are poor it is a real tax.

An annual study by WalletHub has found once again that California is a relatively low-tax state. Despite heated rhetoric from Sacramento to Washington, the effective rate for all state and local taxes combined on a California household with $58,000 in annual income is a relatively low 8.54 percent. California has the 12th lowest tax rate by this measure. (Times of San Diego)
While this assertion is relatively bogus it most probably is entirely technically correct, even taking sales tax into account. What makes it not credible to any of us who have lived in any of the metro areas of CA is that a $58,000 income household is way below the poverty line and we'd expect taxes to be low on the poorest people in any state.

That is why I said equal taxing opportunities for rich and poor: For the rich, income tax of 13.3%, for the poor sales tax of 9.5%.

True. Add to that the bad traffics, pollutions, high crime rate, crumbling infrastructure (so many potholes in the city of Compton residents are actually doing their own road repairs), earthquakes, fires, flooding... But we love California. :D
