Not really sure I'd call my warning "dire", just that such self proclaimed market experts do indeed mislead a lot of folks by portraying themselves as more knowledgable than they actually are. But either way, if it floats your boat, enjoy.

Are you kidding me? Have you read this site? We have 30k aliases claiming to be market experts misleading people. Hell I've had not one, but two guys in the last week claiming they were millionaires and one of them claimed he was managing a billion dollar fund! We need to shut the whole site down if that is the case.
Surf is not "selling" anything. There is nothing to mislead. I just hate hypocrisy. If you are going to warn us about Surf, then warm up a fresh pot of coffee, you have a long day ahead of you. Start a thread and start going down the list of the thousands and thousands of posers on this site.

I never said he wasn't a good guy or dangerous. If he was an a-hole I wouldn't even bother conversing with him. I think he is beyond stubborn and makes way over the top comments about trading. New traders probably should really not pay attention to him. But I enjoy the conversations. Is entertainment. Which is what ET is for.
If he wasn't so boastful he wouldn't draw nearly the attention he does. So he has to expect guys to bust his chops.

he is also writing a book, and he's made elite trader readers aware. i guess that counts as selling something.

I'm sure you're right about others, this just happened to be one of the threads I checked out because I remembered Surf's infamous gold prediction thread from a couple years back and clicked on this thread to see what he was on about now. I never claimed he was the "only" poser, or that I was on some sort of crusade to shut down every one that is out there, so there is no hypocrisy for you to "hate".
Nor did I say he is selling anything. But to say that those who position themselves as experts may not mislead others nonetheless is false.

Well Mav, Surf does claim to have some great strategy. But over the long run he has failed miserably with his calls. So while he is not a scammer selling anything, he is kidding nobody with his claim to have a great strategy. So is he misleading people when he says he has a great strategy........yes.

I know but everyone on ET does. If you ever met the guy in real life and saw his personality I think you would understand him better. He likes to have fun with ET.
Now that samgold guy, come on dude. That is a complete poser. He said he was managing billions and I am the only one who called him out on it. He has since left ET. I just get annoyed that you and others gave him a pass but Surf is the bad guy. Surf has been on ET for a long time. Was even banned once I guess for trying to promote another web site. But he has been very honest for the most part. He has confessed to blowing out accounts and admitted that trading will never be his source of income. How many guys on ET say that? Does he like to inject hyperbole a lot? Sure. Fine, charge him for that crime. But this is a message board filled with either young stupid kids in school (samgold) or older retirees who are bored and come to shoot the shit while watching their retirement accounts. Surf is entertainment.

I have seen over the years those that bark the loudest are full of shit. Especially in trading. The guys who make it in this biz are not cheerleaders who proclaim greatness after their position goes 3 ticks in their favor.
