The annual Super Bowl ad extravaganza has clearly lost steam in recent years. The creativity and cleverness have plummeted as the social justice virtue signaling has skyrocketed. This year's crop of ads ranged from the cringe-worthy, that would be endless Eli Manning skits, to the downright insulting, that being TMobile's insulting tirade using babies to tell their customers what disgusting bigots they are.
My favorite of this dismal parade was the Dodge Ram ad that played early on, featuring a band of head banging Vikings on their way to the big game to support...who else, the Vikings. The only other ad that was even memorable was the trailer for the Rock's new action film.
The halftime show continued the theme of lameness. Justin Timberlake obviously has fans. After seeing this performance, you have to wonder why. Suggestion to NFL: if you absolutely must have a halftime show, alternate between Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga each year until they are too old to manage it.
The game itself was brilliant. It was unfortunate that it was basically decided on a couple of desperately close calls on TD passes, both of which went the Eagles way. I thought the first one would likely have been overturned in a regular season game. Hopefully the amendments to the catch rule will make it more sensible. The other call, on the Ertz TD, looked right to me.
Whatever. No we can we get back to Kirk Cousins speculation.
