Not to get off topic but why is it my job to know whether a worker is in this country illegally?

I have an apple cart and want a day off. I hire someone who can sell apples while I am away. How is this my responsibility?

I understand the point that the gov't has now made me a spy into peoples personal life without paying me. I do not wish to be a immigration policeman, I want to sell apples, if I wanted a gov't job I would apply.

We are legislating people and cos to be "informants".
