study:vegetarians live an average of 6-9 years longer than meat eaters

Quote from Free Thinker:

i didnt cherry pick anything. presented the study as published. the study was about veg vs meat and smoking and drugs would not explain this:
Vegans are, on average, 30 pounds lighter than meat eaters.
- Vegans are also five units lighter on the BMI scale than meat-eaters.
- Vegetarians and vegans are also less insulin resistant than meat-eaters.

Your first two bullets have the same meaning. Body mass is dependent on calories alone ...the source of those calories is irrelevant to the calculations.

Insulin resistance is very dependent on body mass. So it is also related to your first two bullets.

So how does this prove your thesis that meat eaters live longer because meat is inherently bad for you??

LOL, I saw no link to a study, just a link to the huffington post, which also cherry picked. Might as well be quoting cheryl crow.

Free Thinker's not focusing on the telling part, which is this:

"- Pesco-vegetarians and semi-vegetarians who limit animal products, but still eat meat once a week or so, have "intermediate protection" against lifestyle diseases."

Ceteris paribus, the more animal protein, the higher your chances for both heart disease & cancer. The former from cholesterol build-up, the latter because the proteins help incipient cancers to grow strong.
Also, the BMI and obesity stuff is relevant, as it's pretty much impossible to get fat on greens and fruits.

Whenever the world's oldest person dies, there is a reasonably detailed story about them in the news. A few things stand out: None of them were athletes, no marathon runners, no bodybuilders, no NFL football players. If I remember correctly, a few of them mentioned they did calesthenics or stretching, but that was the extent of their exercise program. Another thing is that they ate very little meat. And nearly all of them had nuts in their diet. And all of them ate lightly.

The title of this thread says " study:vegetarians live an average of 6-9 years longer than meat eaters". As soon as you see the "6 - 9" your bullshit antennae should have went up. Was it 6? Was it 9? Did all of them live at least 6 years longer and none of them 9 years longer? Longer than what?

The University of Kentucky has an active study going on regarding bed bugs. The average life of a bed bug varies depending on it's circumstances, but there is one circumstance that makes it live much longer than average. And that is if it is denied food. Bed bugs eat only blood, and the more they eat, the shorter their life span.

geeze you guys. is reading comprehension a lost art? had you bothered to read the story you would have understood that its 9 years for men and 6 years for women.

"Longer than what? " really are you that dense? longer than nonadventists who follow the sad..

How do vegans get adequate B12 and Vit D? Docs have raised recommended daily Vit D dosage recently. Vegans can't rely on nature to get enough they must eat fortified food. Suggests that nature doesn't recommend that we become vegan or it should be availble thru natural source.

b12 is the only thing more difficult to get on a vegatarian diet and is easly solved taking a one a day vitamin.
d is no problem. all kinds of foods are fortified with d these days plus this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...rces_n_1958995.html?utm_hp_ref=healthy-living

That's my point the omnivore is a natural lifestyle, veganism with its reliance on pills and fortified foods which are really just vitamin pills added to food cannot be natural and never be supported in nature.
as a standalone diet.
