Handel does not support a "Living wage" at places like mcdonalds, because all it does is force people out of jobs and further speed up inflation, if mcDonalds pays employees 15 bucks an hour then a meal at mcDonalds will be 15 bucks, its a circle jerk. There will always be an oversupply of people who are able to work at places like mcdonalds, and no matter how much you raise minimum wage, the cost of living will just follow suit, leaving them in the exact same spot as before. There is not enough housing out there to support everyone making 50k a year, the housing prices will just double right along side the minimum wage increase.
When i was in highschool me and everyone i knew on my hockey team worked at mcdonalds for minimum wage because our coach owned all the mcdonalds in the city, it was a good learning experience, and it taught me i sure as fuck dont want to be doing that the rest of my life.
Now when you go to a drive through at mcdonalds no one even speaks english, these jobs are not supposed to be jobs you aspire to create a life on and live the rest of your life at while you raise kids, they are entry level jobs, meant for highschool and college kids who want to enter the workforce. The bottom line is if you want the wages at McDonalds to go up just quit taking in immigrants willing to work those jobs for next to nothing, and wages will have to go up. McDonalds in Canada is one of the biggest places getting unskilled laborers into the country to on temporary work permits, and the reason is because they are the only ones willing to work full time on those wages. If you want wages at McDonalds to go up cut the supply of labor, and wages have no choice but to go up.
When i was in highschool i felt rich making 800 bucks a month working 30 hours a week cause it was alot more than anyone else had, it was a valuable learning lesson, and it helped by putting something else on my resume where I had no work experience to that point.
Also liberals want to raise the minimum wage to 15 bucks at real restaraunts and bars where the vast majority of the servers wages comes from tips, all they are doing is pricing people out of a job, that is a massive hit to real restaraunts and bars where the margins are already razor thin, all the bars are going to do is hire 1 server for a section instead of 2, or else up the price of their drinks, so raising minimum wage did absolutely nothing, infact it screws the less competent/good looking server.
