Well then we can return to a period where employers pay the minimum possible and 80% of the population is working in factories for pennies a day. While we are at it; let's roll back child labor laws (get those lazy 10 year olds back to work), safety laws (what's wrong with employees losing limbs every week), over-time laws, and all the rest of the labor laws. Surely these laws do nothing to raise the standard of living either.
Economic efficiency is an important goal but it is not the only important public policy. There is also the question of forcing employers to bear the full costs of employment and not passing it on to society.
