Student Loans -- the point of no return!

some day in 2075, some old geezer will be sitting on his porch, "I can't believe what these kids are paying for an education today. When I was young, we just filled out a few forms and they gave you 100 grand and you could get a four year degree and have it paid off by the time you were 50."

Quote from Eight:

There was a time when nobody paid back their student loans. The gov didn't send them to collections or anything at all.

There was NEVER a time when no one paid back their student loans.

Quote from Vinny1:

I think that many college students think that just because they are in college, they can major in anything and they will become rich beyond their wildest imagination.

You have counselors in high school telling everyone that they need to go to college. The world needs plumbers, auto mechanics, HVAC technicians, and ditch diggers too.

Thank you. We are not all the same. Not everyone should go to college. At least not the kind of college that provides a traditional baccalaureate degree.

Quote from denner:

It's become as polarizing as the debate over the "cause and effect" of the housing bubble. Basically, everything in our society follows the inflationary trajectory...when incomes cannot cover the perpetual increase in the costs of housing, education, consumables, in steps the government with "easy lending" and "affordable loans" to try and get the sheeple into that "monthly payment" mindset. If that payment proves too much of a burden, in steps some other form of procrastination with a rollover loan at a better rate and/or an extension of the payments to lower the monthly nut.

But instead of acknowledging the source of all this madness, it's much easier to line up on one side of the political spectrum and copy all the soundbites and talking points to try and make sense of it.

Yes!
