What incentive did banks and colleges have to prevent teens from borrowing money that couldn't be paid back based on the current curriculum they pursued? I'm guessing you need what's posted below?

But because that was a loophole created by politicians, he's smart to take advantage of it. So if, as we're discussing here, politicians create a similar loophole for student loan borrowers, then it ceases to be unfair/bad/morally wrong and they become equally smart to take advantage of it? I'm now thinking we have the exact same view on this issue. (In this scenario) Adults took advantage of children with the end goal of siphoning money from middle america and sending it upstream while ensuring they have loopholes to discharge their debt. I'd hope you agree after reading your post.

They lose their principal and interest when the student doesn't pay. The federal government stopped guaranteeing loans in 2010. If a bank is loaning a student money now, they're on the hook when the money isn't paid back. Moral hazard would be the situation they would be in if the government was guaranteeing the loans, they get the upside if the loans perform and no downside if they don't so it appears that they're taking a risk and they're compensated accordingly, but they get bailed out if the risk is realized. Which would incentivize them to take bigger risks than they otherwise would, that's the "moral hazard"part. But that's not the situation banks making student loans are in. And the colleges were never in a situation of taking a financial risk on the students beyond a single semester of tuition.

Well you could say "seed corn" is an educated workforce. Or you could say "seed corn" is ensuring that those of us who make over $518,000 a year only have to pay a 37% instead of 39.6% marginal tax rate. The change Biden is proposing that is the basis for this thread would cost the country less than $400B, once. The change in marginal rates Trump enacted costs the country around $2T over the next 10 years.

As someone who runs a business and depends on a well educated workforce and who also benefited greatly from the Trump tax cuts, I'll take well educated workforce every time. The tax cuts just gave me extra money I didn't really need. A large college educated workforce is necessary for me to make any money in the first place. Seed corn indeed.
