The same with bin Laden. It is easier to harness the anger the Arabs feel about their third world state and aim it at the US than to acknowledge that they are incompetent in governing themselves. That they have oil and only oil. That they do not have a diversified economy. That their unemployment is sky high. That as a people they are in dire straights because of their own decisions to limit education and science and only study the Quran.

And those are the words of an asshole and a stupid racist... It is a shame to say that... You don't know a shit about those countries and their sufferings since colonisation...

I sent 1,000 times a post about a Un officer who said enough is enough... he never defended Saddam but he said the US are killing people... It has nothing to do with Saddam and everybody in the whole world knows it. It has to do with the embargo you stupid ... I cannot understand that you talk the way you talk of the Arabs and yet it shows that you are nothing better than a racist with too many silly preconceptions...

Why make the US into something it is not? The US is a democratic republic that runs its presidential election as 50 individual state elections with a winner take all system. You may argue that the system is silly or old fashioned but don't try to make it sound like our system is un democratic or anything close to what they have in the middle east. At least we get a vote. At least we can go to bed at night not wondering if the president's hit squad is going to haul us out and shoot us before daylight for making subversive statements about the government.

If we want to change our US system, we have a system for peacefully doing that. Can the Iraqis change their system if they want to? Why doesn't Iraq's dictator spend his gun money on food, medicine, education for the masses? Why doesn't he comply with the UN resolutions and get the sanctions lifted and thereby raise the standard of living for all Iraqis? Why does he allow his people to die from starvation and sickness while he illegally spends millions that should be spent on food and medicine on his military and weapons of mass destruction? Why does the Butcher of Baghdad murder those who don't agree with him? Why are Britain and the US more responsible for Iraq's economy than Saddam Hussein? Why do the countries of the world have a moral obligation to trade with Iraq?

You owe yourself a visit to the US. It is really not such an evil empire. Even the "Cowboy", who indeed was not the popularly elected man (but was legally) and I think is not up to the job is at least probably good for some laughs at a friendly poker game. He may be a dufus (don't know the arabic word for "dufus"), but at least he's human. I can imagine how much fun hanging out with the Mustache would be in a Baghdad Honky Tonk.

And in America, we can have a screwed up election, and somehow avoid bloodshed over it. Pretty cool, huh?

I brought facts about Irak... the child mortality increased like never before since the embargo and the numbers are formal there are 1.5 million people dead because of the US embargo...

These are UN statistics.. And you can say whatever you want about Saddam it is the US that created that crime... I never said that the US were an evil country but their leaders are certainly not very wise man ....

All the politicians and journalist in Europe recognize that the US embargo is criminal and whether you like it or not they are pro arafat and against Sharon policies... Strange isnt'it??? and the vast majority is obviously against war in Iraq... especially with the very light evidences to support that attack... a war on Iraq seems very easy for the american but it can create Chaos in that region of the world... even in afghanistan that was supposed to be a success a US soldier said that it could become a new viet nam!!!! Beware... I think that a third war is not impossible and that Bush can precipitate the world in a fucking mess... in which case I will certainly never have the chance to visit your nice country....

Bush and his top aides have accused Iraq of seeking weapons of mass destruction, saying it poses a danger to the Middle East region and the West. Iraq denies the charges.

"It is clearly a decision that is motivated by George W. Bush's desire to please the arms and oil industries in the United States of America," Mandela said in the Newsweek article.

Nearly every country in the world, with the exception of Britain and Israel, has expressed grave misgivings about a pre-emptive attack on Iraq and want prior approval by the 15-nations U.N. Security of any military action.

"On what basis must he (Bush) ignore the considered opinion of world leaders who are members of the United Nations and respect their charter," Mandela said in Cape Town after a 25th anniversary memorial event for slain black activist Steve Biko.

The statesman also warned that if the United States ignored the Security Council it would "introduce chaos in international relations and that must be condemned in the strongest terms."
 
I don't mean to sound cold-hearted to those who do suffer under horrible governments, but is it really any nation's place to concern itself so deeply in the affairs of other nations? During the isolationism period within our nation's history, we were doing fine by focusing on the problems within our own country.

If we're going to solve problems, the first step is asking ourselves why we are even in this mess to begin with. A lot of Americans are pissed off at the Arabs and rightfully so, however sometimes it takes a lot of guts for someone to step up to the soapbox and ask, "Maybe we've done some things to partially get ourselves into this mess?"

The general American public works hard enough each day to get food on the table and spend time with the family -- running the daughter to soccer practice and the son to his baseball game. We're all caught up in our own little worlds because that is the nature of living.

Funny, but the average family in a third-world country has absolutely nothing compared to us. They don't have cars, they don't have freezers packed with too much food -- they don't even have soccer or baseball. While we're standing barefoot in the kitchen at 2am in our half-million dollar house deciding what we want to snack on because there is simply too much of a selection, over 50% of the rest of the world's population is standing barefoot in a little hut or cave wondering when they're going to eat again.

We really are a lucky nation to have all the things we do. We are also a greedy nation, and enough is never enough for most people who rip and claw to climb the corporate ladder to get "more stuff."

Quite simply, I'm sick of the entire mess that our greedy politicians have gotten us into. Whether democratic or republican, it is all the same to me -- they're all playing the same games.

We've already commercialized our very existence -- our country is really just one huge corporation that is more interested in increasing output on a day to day basis.

We are also now part of a global economy, which means no major country can make a decision without it having major effects on other countries with similar interests.

Isreal needs to give the Palestinians their own land -- nothing else is going to stop this daily suicide bombing shit. In fact, we can tip-toe and pussy-foot any longer -- drastic decisions need to be made and drastic actions need to be implemented.

Sooner or later, the greed from a small percentage of this country is going to send the other 90% into a full-fledged disaster consisting of rioting, depression, war, famine and a breakdown of civic order.

Don't think this country is too big to fall -- because if we don't address the real problems (and you know what I'm talking about -- the real problem is our political system and how it has run amok), we're going to divebomb as a world power.

I'd hate to see this great nation decay, but sooner or later a spark will ignite and the great deck of cards will come down.
 
The embargo means that you cannot import the food you want you cannot export freely.. it's like cutting one's arms.... you block the economy even the arabs cannot export freely goods to Irak... it is more an informal economy...

And in 1990 if you remember the US said we will deliver the Iraki people from that tyran and what did they do they let Saddam instead of eliminating him which could have been done... Instead they put an embargo on Irak that was criminal... Irak one of the most advanced country in that part of the world with a standard of living equivalent to some european countries became one of the poorest country in the middle east... that is the story...

It is very easy to say to others that they have to work hard... but if I break your arms and I say come on you have to work hard look at me I am working hard makes no sense..

Last but not least ... after the colonisation the british and the french made their best to create 2 type of countries :

Countries oil rich and countries oil poor...
and then you have a small country koweit with 600,000 inhabitant and abondant oil resources and big countries like egypt that are realy poor... Of course if the money of the rich countries saudia koweit was invested in those poor countries that would have been a very good point since it is in those poor countries were you find the brightest guys.. instead these fat dictators are investing it in switzerland or the UK...

what happens is that all those brains instead of staying in their countries of origins go to the US and europe... I am sure that in the US in your scientific labratories you have many arabs contributing to the research.. this is the case in europe... you have many arabs at top level in scientific research many of my friends are top mathematicians or physicians...

The sad thing is that instead of developing their own countries those people because they do not have appropriate conditions go abroad.. this is also my case... and the sad thing is that this is a vicious cycle...

You have to know that during the tech boom many US head hunters came to north africa to hire mathematicians and computer engineers... and this represents a great loss to arab countries and third world countries... so the situation is not as easy as it seems with technology and transport developement imigration became easier than even before and the poor countries are becoming poorer and poorer and the rich richer and richer...
