You do post some interesting points. I don't know why you have worked so hard and haven't found success. It is an up and coming belief that thoughts are things. So if one is constantly thinking about and talking about why they always fail that person could very well be drawing adverse situations to them. From my own experience, my great strides in life have come when I was in a positive and open state of mind. Unfortunately, life's moods seem to cycle from up to down and so it is difficult to always be positive. Maybe if you find something that easily puts you in a good open state of mind the money will flow. We all have something that easily makes us passionate, the trick is to get your mind off the money and onto whatever that is. Either way good luck ;)

Also funny how this thread started with a debate on credit card fraud and now has come to why some succeed and some don't. I'm still thumbs down on CC fraud :p
 
The 666 guy sure has something up his backside sideways, I mean way up there so far he can't get over it, regarding people that default...

Wow, I was thinking back to when I defaulted, it's been more like three years, I was thinking it was when I got out of work [I really don't think linearly, I can't really put my life in chronological order at all, never could, never could see the point to doing that...] but it was months before that... I might have less than a year to go on the statute of lims and the collectors don't know where I am... this has been the best time of my recent years really, I hated working for the most part, I was very good at it but I really hated putting in all those hours while the financial sector was earning 40% of all the income in the US and I was stuck with big payments... the kid got a nice education out of it but that gets old even... I got out of work, been collecting rocking chair money for the whole time off and on, Bush extended unemployment, then the BO extended it again, and yet again, I have no bills and 89 weeks more at $2100 a month... and since getting out of work my daytrading skills are way up, I mean way, way up... I'll have a new career going here and I still won't contact those collections bastards, they all break the laws, call repeatedly, tell me bullshit stories... I told one I'm out of work but I'm not out of money and I have a lot of time to find him and level the playing field... he talked nice to me, then I told him the calls are illegal and I was just taking them to jerk his chain and he called for about one more day just to be a shithead and prove to me that he'd gotten away with being a shithead on me before.. then he went silent on me...

I used to hate people like me that were free and loving it... I have to act like the poor and oppressed and cheated ex worker to get by with everybody around here in the 'hood of course but it's an act...

Hunter gatherers work only two hours a day... all their lives... occasionally they have to build something but it's an art what they do, and they eat a far better diet than the typical US Citizen or even the health conscious US Citizen.... they have the rest of their time to articulate culture...and they do it a lot better than anybody I've seen on ET, bar none nearly...

This is just my FU message to 'ya there 666, don't take it personal, it would be bad for your psyche... you ought to figure out what you got stuck up that backside of yours... and get it removed, the world would be a better place...
 
i'll say one thing. success is due to both hard work and luck, but the distribution is probably far more skewed towards luck than people think.

why? when people succeed, they believe that the reason is due to their own hard work. they tend not to see the extra help they may have received or how they were fortunate in certain critical junctures that kept them on the path of success. that's just human nature.

now you have two camps of people. the ones who succeeded and the ones who failed. which of these two camps do you hear from the most in tv shows and newspapers? of course you hear from the people who succeeded the most. what do they say?

"work hard and you'll succeed."

Yes I’ve thought about that a lot. This is a thread about something I’ve dealt with personally, so I thought I’d contribute. But I don’t wake up everyday and think about everything that went wrong in my life. In fact I try to ignore it as much as possible. Like they say to try to keep a trade journal. I tried that for a little, but then I realized all my trades were going bad as well as life in general, so why bother writing about it and reliving it? I think about what I need to do today to improve it. I am sort of mixed as to the whole positive thinking philosophy. I have a few issues with it that nobody’s ever been able to answer. I can say that lately, things have started to turn around slightly in the job area. But I can also say that that started happening when I was at a really low point a couple of months ago. It had nothing to do with positive thoughts. In fact, the temp job I’m working now, I had to take a little test to get a few months ago. The day before it, my manger at work wasn’t following the rules at work, and I was, and he got mad at me and suspended me for a week for no reason. The next day (the day of the interview and test), I called the district manager to try work out the situation, which was completely blown out of proportion, and he said he didn’t care about it and hung up on me. Needless to say, I wasn’t feeling very positive that day, but I went in, did good on the test and got no calls for almost 2 months until one day I did. It just happened.

BTW it pains me to see how much opportunity there is out there right now, but I haven’t figured out how to capitalize on it. The job market is dead, but the opportunity market is ripe for the taking. Those who bulid now, will grab huge market share when the economy recovers. Unfortunately, that is the area that requires a lot of money and risk, two things I’m short on right now.

I like the way you put it. Those who suceed say it’s due to hard work, but a lot of the time, they were just in the right place at the right time. I’m not saying this is always true, but I do think that no matter how hard you work, sometimes you just need a good break.

I just got done reading Big Russ and Me by Tim Russert. As he was telling about his career and how he got there, I couldn’t help but think that it just sort of happened for him. All the jobs he had that led up to his final one, came about almost through accident. In fact, a lot of the time, he was reluctant to take them because he kept wanting to start his law practice. It was a great book, and certainly showed what an unfinished life he had. I got to meet him a couple of years ago. He was a nice guy.
 
You're delusional. I and many others have ripped apart your arguments, pointed out flaws in your reasoning and showed that you have a victim's mentality but talking to you is like talking to a rock because you can't see outside of the hole you've dug for yourself. Good luck and consider getting professional help.

I spent my younger years being a screwup and disfunctional. I finally found out how to direct my strengths toward something rewarding and that I enjoy.

Shit happens along our journey in life but we are the master of our destinations.
 
You left out the part of human nature where people who fail blame it on others, " bad luck," external circumstances, anything but the real cause of their problems -- their bad decisions which were usually avoidable.

Some people consistently make sound decisions and are willing to really sacrifice for success -- like putting themselves through med or law school for example. Others go no farther than high school, deliver pizza, and whine about not succeeding "no matter what they try or how hard they work."

As a nation we have to get away from the use of credit cards. I got myself in trouble many times with credit cards. I think we have to change our mindset and get away from spend everything you make and then borrow to keep spending. My goal is to not use any credit cards, have any auto loans or mortgages. This is the way the rich and powerful keep the middle class chained down. Educate yourself and stop borrowing money and stop buying random shit. Just try and sell some of those expensive clothes or bullshit you buy and you will see how much you lose. Buy a new car and its worth 40% of the price you paid 3 years later.
