While I am on the side of the responsible group, I'm cheering on those who have figured out how to game the system and are getting away with it.
Being straight-laced in this culture is not all it's made out to be, and to a certain degree we are the product of our upbrining and early programming ... we aren't necesarily on the side of the angels (assuming they would take a side in this mess, anway).
Fractals 'R Us is very englighting, informative, and sounds like he is the original slacker. While spanish89 is just funny as all-get-out! (I can't believe the guy actually wants to be a cop, on top of everything else)!
For you other L-7 Squares out there, there is a lot more to life than meets the eye, so if these guys decide to get their game on, well, hey ...

So people that are staggering along, paycheck to paycheck, able to only make the minimums on their CC's when the companies have jacked their rates past 30% on only the slightest pretense should just keep on doing that I suppose..
It feels good to tell the banking industry to get the f$%k out of one's life.. and stay the F$%k out, and to not need them for any F^^king thing, it feels good to have things paid for... I wake up feeling good, and rested, and with a great future... I have more under my mattress than I owe those meth head collectors... I sort of have to assume they are going to catch up with me at some point, wifey is not too careful about giving out the info... I think I can steer the whole debt thing into a lien on the rental and Obama will once again take care of that with inflation... you guys should get control of your finances and use a bank only for a place to get behind if you have to take a piss at night...

this is a funny thread and very insightful on how people try and maneuver. bottom line is if you set yourself up to screw the creditors so to speak you can get away with it. when you stop and think about it being a self employed trader is probably the best place to be in if you do this. i should say profitable trader. first of all you are not going to garnish your own wages. second you can still own a house and not worry about a lien being placed. reason for this is if you are married and if you dont have joint debt you are considered tenance by entirity. that is impossible to breach for a creditor. unless of course you have joint debt or you get divorced or one of you dies then the shield could be pierced. this does vary by state just not sure which ones this falls into.
also those harrassing creditors can be stopped yes they can. send a ceast and desist letter to the collection agent and by law they have to assign you back to your original creditor. make sure u send it certified with a signature required specifying payment enclosed, trust me they will except it. if they disregard your letter you can in turn sue the collection agent. you can spin the wheels for years and when the statute of limitations in your state is up then its really over. you can never be sued after that date and you basically can start rebuilding your credit all without claming bk and getting the courts involved.
most creditors wont sue unless they see a reasonable chance of obtaining assets otherwise it just costs them tons of money. once a judgement is obtained you in turn higher an asset protection lawyer who will hide your assets like a cheap whore. hey thats what they do. yes i have some personal experience because a few years ago i was having trouble paying some unsecured debt and defaulted so i could continue paying my secured debts. all things considered if your gonna default hopefully its not on the house.
in the old days those same creditors you defaulted on are willing to go all in with you again for second chance. got to love the irony in that.

This means the balance will nearly double every two years. This is a slimy, pathetic tactic on the creditors part done for the sole reason of destroying his credit.

Not paying bills because you lost your job due to no fault of your own or being overwhelmed with medical bills is one thing... deliberately scamming as it seems to me you have is even worse than being a deadbeat, it's fraud and possibly a felony.
