Defensive stocks. Stocks whose economic fortunes are not tied to the economic cycle do well in bear markets.

Sin stocks such as tobacco and alcohol (BUD) as well as Utilities and heatlh care tend to fare better than other stocks in market bears.

I know that BUD at least went up nicely as many people drank their fears away
