Stocks Analysis Using Price Action

TSLA Weekly. 180 seems interesting. Also notice energy and oil stocks as these go in tandem generally speaking.

I have no plans on touching this.

You're welcome.

As for the short op, I haven't characterized MSFT but a mean-reverting instrument would be likely to test the coil again before resuming the downmove. If this does, don't be discouraged. Just exit and re-enter.

Updated MSFT... you were right DB... is this considered a good coil test ?View attachment 151657View attachment 151658

Well of course I was right; I'm the legendary Db :)

As I said, I haven't characterized this. I haven't traded stocks for 15 years (though I'm going to be buying some oil stocks).

But as generic advice, like if you were illustrating a setup for a book, first see when price exits the hinge. Because of the balancing that the hinge represents, price ought to leave it no longer than two-thirds of the way through. If it takes longer than that, then traders are most likely satisfied with where they are and price is more likely to segue into a range. The activity level is a good clue. If trading is listless, don't expect drama.

If it does leave the hinge, it will often exit one side, return, and exit the opposite side a relatively equal distance IF it's mean-reverting. This is a form of testing the waters. But price in some instruments will exit one side, return to the apex, then begin a continuation. Others will drop out of the hinge and never look back. That's part of the characterization process. Look at what traders typically do with this stock. If you can't detect any patterns, you're not going to be able to trade this in as nearly a relaxed fashion as you would something that's more predictable.

So, to get to it, you could short this test, but you'd have to decide in advance where your stop was going to be and then leave it alone. If you haven't worked out all the details for all the contingencies in advance, just watch it and take notes. There will be another opportunity eventually.

NQ is approaching the upper TC. Maybe in a few days or a week or two we might get an opportunity to short. I am not interested in AAPL.
