I certainly don’t discount people’s devotion to their candidate of choice. We are very much tribal and I have no doubt you see Moore as a weapon to use against your perceived opponents.

You don't have to go that far back. The Founders of this country clearly recognized the dangers of a democratic form of government and attempted to guard against them with the creation of three co-equal branches of government and a federal system wherein the individual states retained considerable power.

Over time, those brilliantly conceived safeguards have been ground down. The men who did the grinding have monuments to them in our Nation's capital, eg Lincoln, FDR, not to mention the evil mediocrities who have served on the Supreme Court.

We seem to have reached a point of no return now. The reaction to Trump's election by the democrats, media and leftists in general pretty much removed any doubt that he we have passed from liberal democracy into a tribal society. The sooner people on the right recognize that the better, because the opposition is not under any illusions.

You know, you're the first prog I've heard appreciate that aspect of it. Moore is a lot like Trump. No one supported Trump because they admired him, except maybe grudgingly, but because he seemed to be the sort of gladiator who would be useful in an all out battle. Ditto for Moore. The sex charges are embarrassing, but no the worst that have ever stained the Senate. Former democrat Maj. leader Robert Byrd was marching around in sheets as a member of the KKK while Moore was ogling teen girls. Neither drunkenly drove their car into a pond and drowned anyone, at least not to our knowledge. And even that was acceptable.
