Balmer was crucial in taking MSFT from a 30 person private company to a public company that dominated it's field. He just sucked at running it as a mature company years later. That's doesn't make one a mediocre person, it just makes them really good at one thing and not at another. Throwing stones when one has achieved success at neither of those things isn't terribly impressive. More useful to learn the lesson and focus on what you're good at.someone who worked on his floor at MSFT told me he was drinking one bottle of whisky a day, and was never sober during the day

I was a contractor at Microsoft when he was the director of OS2 development team with IBM. At the meetings, he used to come in and lay down on the floor while conducting the meeting. He is a weird fucker.
All the more impressive if you can do it drunkI don't see Warren Buffet or Jeff Bezos drinking 24/7 to make it through the day
