Starbucks Brand Crashes After Announcement of Plan to Hire 10,000 Muslim ‘Refugees’

If your son started telling people that certain minorities were an inferior race and that perhaps slavery should be re-enacted, would you respect his beliefs?

As a parent, I have an obligation to teach my son right and wrong. If my son grows up and chooses to ignore that advice, that is his choice. I won't be happy about it, but I would not interfere so long as he never acted on his belief and tried to enslave people or cause harm.

Interesting how you only highlight one side of this question. But there are two sides, fred.

On the one side there are the people who voice abominable opinions.

On the other side there are people who say that others are not allowed to speak abominable opinions and if they do, they'll get the living hell beat out of them.

You've made it clear earlier you stand with the latter and that is as contemptible as it gets.
But i'm not surprised, seeing as how your spirituality comes from within and all.

But as long as he didn't act on his belief and only voiced it, you wouldn't call him on his blatant bigotry when he reached adulthood? You'd go with the flow?

I'd make sure he understood my point of view. The rest is up to him. No, I wouldn't call him a bigot.

This is all hypothetical of course, and no disrespect to you or your son. But that is exactly what he would be in that scenario, would you not agree?

It would depend on the exact viewpoint. If he honestly believed in slavery and thought other races should be enslaved because they were less worthy or some other lunacy, then yes, I would agree he would be a bigot.

But if he were willing to let go of the slavery thing but nevertheless consider a minority group to be of a lesser race and less worthy than a Caucasian, would that not also make him a bigot? Again, all hypothetical.

You're trying to corral me into a similar thought with homosexuality. It's not going to work, because I don't think of gays as "lesser" people. I consider them to be sinning, but I would fight to defend their rights as I would any other American. Me holding to religious values as important and choosing to consider certain actions as sins does not make me a bigot. If you see someone doing drugs and think they shouldn't it doesn't make you a bigot, as an example.

You're trying to corral me
No, I wasn't. I was sticking to the topic. Where it might have led, I don't know. But I was not (yet) trying to play a move in advance.
I consider them to be sinning
Against whom? The "god" that made them the way they are? Or against your own sensibilities?

Bad example. You know better.
