How exactly do u derive the DU formula?

The question quoted above, as well as those questions answered by smtrader, have been covered numerous times throughout the Journal. I strongly encourage you to review the posts located within the many pages here. I not only explain the different processes involved with the various forms of Dry Up Volume calculation, but also, provide the formula used.

Different equations for the various forms of Dry Up Volume calculations are scattered throughout the Journal. In addition, Jack Hershey discusses his Dry Up Calculations on the MSN Web Site (see background material for a link) and in his lengthy posts elsewhere on ET. Also, inandlong, discussed Dry Up Volume in his thread (also linked from background material). I suggest starting at the beginning of the Journal and re-reading the material contained here. Doing so enables you to develop a thorough understanding of the theories behind the methods, and provides a clear explanation of the methodology involved.

Anyone got a good site with adjustable indicators that's free for intraday?

I suppose a 20-minute delay really isn't good enough and I might have to subscribe to stockcharts.com. Can't install software on my computer at work.

You can use Medved Quotetracker with the streaming data feed for quite a few brokers. One version of Medved is free if you don't mind the ads. You can also place trades to a lot of brokers dirtectly through Medved's interface. If you pay fee you can eliminate ads and the need to click them.

I've got another screener for you which is worth taking a look at...

Try Livecharts... I think the subscription is only $20-30 per month plus exchange fees (total of ~$5).
Guys,

I realize you are only trying to help one another but let's not forget ET's policy against NO FREE ADVERTISING. That includes links to commercial services or commercial sites, for whether or not you have a financial stake in the company that is exactly what you are doing. This thread is about Spydertrader's (and Jack Hershey's) methodology, not about endless discussions of software and services. Thanks.

Hi Spydertrader,

Can you list the high band and prior volume numbers you have for ELOS and MCRI? I ask because I do not have them anywhere near DU:

ELOS:
Prior Volume: 493,657
Upper Band: 125,252

MCRI:
Prior Volume: 216,159
Upper Band: 79,378

I used the code you provided and I can't attribute these large differences to us using different data sources. I also checked a second source to verify the volume.

Do you have any idea why we arrive at different DU status?

Yes, I can easily explain the differences - you arrived at the correct status, and I did not. For some reason, when I update my data in Wealth-Lab Developer from Qcharts, I need to create a new datasource. If I don't create a new datasource, I get odd numbers. This usually occurs when I try updating earlier in the evening vs. late at night or next day. I do not have any idea why. After reviewing the numbers (after creating a new datasource), I only have MFLX and SYNA in Dry Up, and NOT ELOS and MCRI as I indicated in my post above. I apologize for any confusion resulting from my erroneous post, and I thank-you for bringing this to my attention.

Spydertrader,

I have spent the last two hours scanning over your diary of using the Hershey method and your patience in answering questions, many of which have been asked more than once. I stumbled across this thread and it piqued my curiosity because it had similar characteristics to a volume surged EOD and price breakout system that I have traded for about 3 years. I know that you have posted your results, but the only file that I could find through searching for the word "results" was an excel file that contained about 20 trades. (That could have been due to a mistake on my part). Could you kindly post a link to the file that has the result of all of the trades that you have executed?

I am particular interested in parameters such as average dwdn, max drawdown, expectancy and ROR. If I could find the results, then I could apply other statistical techniques as well.

thank you for your attention.

I appreciate your kind words with respect to The Jack Hershey Equities Method Journal, and thank-you for your interest. Attached, please find the results of all trades taken since I began the Journal. I initiated trading using $50,000 out of my trading account for these methods (I use the remaining funds to trade other methods from the same account). I keep track of the "Hershey Trades" using the attached excel Sheet, and currently have two open positions reflected in the file.

I hope you find the attached information useful.
