2005-03-01, Universe List - Update

In an effort to simplify the process of signal generation, I cleaned up the Final Universe List. As of the above post, our Final Universe consisted of 50 stocks - many of which violated the EPS, Average Volume or Float requirements of The Jack Hershey Equities System. In addition, many stocks had lost their 'ranking' during the last 30 days. Maintaining these stocks in the Final Universe List, not only created additional and unnecessary calculations, but also, created signals we largely ignored. While cleaning the Final Universe List should reduce the overall number of signals generated by the system, I anticipate an increase in signal quality.

As Jack Hershey often 'breaks his own rules' when it comes to trading his tenured stocks, so to will we permit our tenured stocks to maintain their status in The Final Universe List.

We define our current list of Tenured Stocks as those stocks we have traded in the past for a profit. As a result, the following list of stocks contains the symbols for all profitable trades posted to the Journal (that were not previously removed during other list clean-up efforts):

Using Qcharts for sorting purposes, we eliminate the following stocks for rules violations:

Our Final Universe List now contains 29 stocks. Each day when I post the lists, any stock in the Hot List that violates the EPS, Volume and Float rules will no longer find its way into the Final Universe List. As always, I shall continue to post all additions and deletions to the Final Universe List.

2005-03-01, Tuesday - Update

Our system failed to generate a signal today as none of the Watch List stocks had actual volume that exceeded any level of calculated Dry Up Volume. SNDA came very close to triggering a signal both at the 50% pro-rata level and at the Du Volume Level. No stocks reached FRV status by EOD.

2005-03-03, Thursday - Update

Our system triggered a possible trade signal this morning when actual volume of TASR exceeded the 50% pro-rata level of DU5 volume calculations. However, neither MACD (-.0079) nor The Stochastic Indicator (23.8443) fell within desired parameters. In addition, we did not see price ($15.01 at signal generation) improvement. Lastly, the large gap at the open for TASR (12.9% gap) instructed us to stay clear of this trade. As a result, I took no action with regard to TASR either long or short.
