Thanks svrz.
The only problem is I have now defined my system more clearly so loathe to introduce new elements!

Have you tested the simple MACD 5/13/6 crossover for expectancy? I recall you saying its the best indicator you have found.

Hi Rod

If it works, don't break it. :)

MACD(5,13,6) is the best *linear* and *publicly available* trend indicator I have seen. However this does not mean it can precisely predict turning points. By itself, it may yield positive results in a few markets. However in most markets, you would incur net losses if you used this by itself.

Unfortunately this indicator has to be augmented with another to yield desired results.

Regards.

Sometimes..All times ..

Price isn't the best determinant.

Food for thought.:)

In the interest of keeping things up until Spydertrader returns, thought I would post a new trade. Took TASR long this morning at $17.30 on a 50% pro-rata DU signal. (see attached file). Should've gotten in earlier, but a volume alert popped onto my screen for either TRMM or BLTI (can't remember) while I was entering the order, lol.

TASR has been a quite volatile stock lately and not the ideal strongly uptrending candidate, so my reasons for taking a long here were because the volume and price action over the past few days had sharply contracted, indicating the selling might be at end and a breakout was pending. Not sure if this trade will workout (30min MACD currently crossing over), so will probably move stop to BE very soon.

Was also looking hard at APPX this morning, but it couldn't seem muster the volume during the first 2 hours. See the nice pullback on the daily chart.

Incidentally, I was considering Spydertrader's alternate entry for zero-score stocks, but when dry-up volume for APPX was reached around 1PM, the stoch indicator on the 30min had fallen below 75 and the MACD was crossing down. The stock dumped 45 cents or so shortly thereafter so standing aside was a good thing in this case.

After returning from my unexpected travel and playing 'catch-up' with messages and email all afternoon, I wanted to update everyone with regards to a few housekeeping measures. During my absence, EZCORP, INC. (EZPW) found its way onto our Final Universe List. In addition, we remove two symbols due to mergers and acquisitions:

Endocardial Solutions (ECSI)
Marketwatch (MKTW)

St. Joseph's Medical recently completed a buyout of ECSI making it a wholly owned subsidiary. Dow Jones purchased Marketwatch.

Thanks to everyone for the continued interest in the journal. Your efforts have been greatly appreciated by many.

Johnc - rather ballsy thinking of buying after it has fallen down to the top of a big gap like that.

Heh, yep. Worked out though sort of, got filled on first half this morning at 18.17. It's dropping like a stone now, will probably hit breakeven stop for 2nd half. At least I got something out of it. Viva la TASR!
