I already mentioned I use it. Im not sure what we were arguing about again, but I don't know of too many viruses that actually wipe out a persons disk drive, if there are any.

there is a new Malware out that shuts you down. Won't let you operate,and wants 30 bucks to fix it, and that's when some Russian gets your credit card number.
Go to Download.com, brings you to CNET. Go to "4", Malware, anti, whatever, and download "Malwarebytes". Took me all day to clean up my computer, finally am donig this, and I see, real time, it's already found two infections.
You do not want this malware. You can't operate. ANd the machine it hit is a clean machine. I maybe went to the yahoo finance page. That's it. And I won't do that again from that machine.
After deleting enough filesto and running in safe mode, I got seven infections.
"Rogue..........." whatever. It gets in your registry.
Do this over the weekend. Friend of mine is int he business, and it's popping up all over. He's working overtime, and this is what he's doing.
If it hits, you might not be able to fix it yourself. But go into safe mode, and try to download the program. We couldn't do it right away. I just reloaded it this morning and it worked.

Adaware (free version)
Malwarebytes
install all 3 as soon as you get a new computer or format an old one.
Ignore all comerical firewall/av products and use windows firewall + a standard home router (even if you only have one PC)
turn automatic updates on in your control panel.
when you have your fresh PC. open up the task manager and make a mental note (or even write down) all of the processes currently running. If you are interested, you can google them as well to get an idea what they each do. You might not understand it but it will do you a LOT of good to have seen it before.
Now, anytime your computer starts acting wierd or does something you don't expect...check your task manager again, is there anything new? Make a mental note to google it later.
Update (all of them have built in updaters) and then Run each of the scanners mentioned at the top of this post one at a time (only because you might detect the same thing in multiple apps).
These steps will keep your computer safe and running smoothly until it gets outdated.

Interesting to know. I don't use IB.
I would be more interested to find out if it is spybot that messes with IB or if it is Teatimer. You don't have to use the TeaTimer portion (it doesn't even have to be installed) and since TeaTimer is the only resident portion of spybot, I would suspect it is what is interfering.
One other thing no one mentioned is using common sense. Stay away from porn/warez sites from russia, china etc. Don't open any old torrent, email, etc. If it seems fishy, stay away. It's not worth it to nuke your computer for some free porn or software.
The few times that I do get tricked I've found Avast Antivirus to be very good at catching things in real time. I also run Malware bytes and CCcleaner occasionally. That's all I use and I've been running perfectly for over a year.

Adaware is supposed to be on demand, but it starts up a process and runs all by its little self. If you find the way to turn it off, then the next time you run the program, the stealthy little process is back up and ready to go again. That process takes cpu when it starts running and i don't like that, so i dumped it. Too bad, because the program would usually find one or two things.
Never heard of this ms essentials before. I've got ms defender running on my computer. What's the difference in them? Anyone?
