SPX Credit Spread Trader

FYI,

IB's latest TWS upgrade now allows for trading in the weeklies...

Also, the SET was 4 points higher than the high of the day today. These things could be very hazardous to your health...

rdemyan,

I'm not answering for coach but whatever you end up doing should be based on your belief of what the market will do. In the next weeks/months do you think the market will go up or down or sideways? Are vols low or high compared to where they will be in the next few weeks/months? My 2 cents is that it's very difficult to adjust a trade or even craft an initial trade without some initial beliefs of where the market is heading.

JAN vols will go up soon , it's a reporting month

1. Go to SPX line in TWS (or put SPX in)
2. Select Options
3. Select the nearest ATM Stike that ends with a 5 -- put or call -- for the current month (Dec now)
4. Selec the contract that begins with a J

That's it.

According to the CBOE website they open the ATM contract and 2 on either side. After that, I don't know if they add additional contracts.

I have accessed the put prices and they are for 1235, 1250, 1265, 1280, 1295.

I did not understand when you said ends with a 5

please clarify

No worries. I only found the ATM with quotes when I looked. There were contracts that could be selected for the others but they had no quotes. I guess the one's actually traded are 15 apart. My apologies and thanks for the correction.

Kind of fun being excited about a flat day in the market....

13 days to expiration with the weekend eating into that nicely. I am 35 points OTM on the call side and 60 points OTM on the put side. A little more pull to the down side would be nice but I will take flat for now.

I just run everyting thing through a pricing model. I'm sure ToS has something like that with their software.

Today I notice that the SPX front month calls are going off at an average of about 12.1% I.V.

So, how are you playing this? Are you buying puts or calls, or strangling?
