That system looks fine, it's got a decent amount of RAM and should handle whatever you throw at it as you get started.
Suggestion: If you are going to travel a fair amount, consider spending a little more for a 13.3" laptop. You'll save at least a pound in weight, maybe more if it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, and you might actually be able to use it on an airplane (due to seat tilt in front of you).
Something like this, which if the description is correct, comes with a solid state drive, bringing the weight down even more. This was the first thing that popped up on Google; I have no idea if it's a reputable seller.

Before you decide, log into your trading platform and size it to the screen dimensions of a 13.3 and then a 15.6 laptop. You might not notice a big difference, especially if you use something complicated like Interactive Brokers TWS or TDA Think or Swim, which have many windows/modules. I would bet that in both 13.3 and 15.6 you have to minimize some modules to be able to see and get some work done.

17 inch is to heavy to carry it on my back,I ll stick with 15
very bad reviews,won't buy that one
I only use Thinkpads... and my present one is a W530... but I've been eyeing the T540p since that takes away some weight...

and btw, there is nothing wrong with X1 Carbon... it has a specific market, and people who are not its target market have bought it and expect it to do wonders..
The T540p looks like a killer laptop. I'm checking that one out as well. You can customize it with Windows 7 and a solid state drive for decent performance.
Also, if you're traveling, check out the portable monitors from ASUS. You simply connect it via a USB 3.0 port on your laptop so you can have a second monitor "on the go."

whatever you do, just get a clean copy of win7 to install.. and then install the system tools and only apply the toolsets that you want... leave a few behind that are not needed.. that will eliminate bloatware ...
