That was a question that came up around year 2000. There were a couple of years with no annual deficit and the question was with no debt to sell would the Bond market need to exist.
9/11 ended that
Even though the government needs neither bonds nor taxes to be able to spend, government bonds will always be needed. Government bonds serve the private sector as a zero risk-of-default*, interest-paying store of money. They also serve the Central Bank as an important tool.

*I ignore political risk. If we have a meat grinder , the risk of us intentionally grinding our hand up, is, I would hope, zero. In politics, figuratively speaking, there is apparently some finite risk we will intentionally thrust our hand, and maybe our entire arm, into the grinder while it's running...

Next up, warming up, before going to the batter's box is the Congressman from Louisiana. Can't remember his name- super-articulate though.

Anyway, give it a couple days and he will spout and surface like a Beluga whale. Might even get the speakership.
Think Jordan will get the 217 votes today?

I have tuned it out a bit just to let it do what it is going to do.

As far as settling today, the word "doubtful" does come to mind though.

They may "semi-resolve" it today or tomorrow though with a plan to make the speaker pro temp the house speaker for sixty days or some such chickenshit plan.

I think it was Lindsey Graham on Monday that said he was "sure" Jordan would get it on the second round.
One would think he has the political savvy to know how these things will go. But probably not.

Oh geesuz. Just what Jim Jordan needs- to have Lindsey jinx it. And we know Lindsey can do it.
