Speaker of the House is Vacated - What Next?

Just a reminder -- Jim Jordan and the MAGA crowd using death threats and intimidation to seize government positions is very much on topic -- because this is how authoritarians operate. It's not that Jordan is winning the Speaker position based on his non-existent legislative record --- it's just that GOP has no backbone to resist the intimidation from the Trumper crowd. Let's take a look at what else the Jordan crowd has been up to.

MAGA Goons Threaten Wives of Anti-Jordan Republicans
Who is behind these threatening texts to the wives of Jordan holdout Republicans?

I figure these threats come from left radicals...to get headlines like the one you posted

Quite the fantasy you have there. This is how authoritarians operate. The MAGA crowd is very reminiscent of the brown shirts in Germany in the 1930s.

At this point it is very clear that Jim Jordan is coordinating a campaign to intimidate and abuse any GOP representatives who do not vote for him. The campaign has backfired badly as Jordan loses more votes in each round of voting.

Jim Jordan’s allies tried strong-arming his GOP critics. It backfired.
“The one thing that will never work with me — if you try to pressure me, if you try to threaten me, then I shut off,” GOP Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart said.

Jordan won’t seek third speaker vote, allowing House to empower interim speaker

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will not seek an additional speaker vote Thursday, and he will back a plan to give Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.), the temporary speaker, additional powers, according to multiple people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the situation. After two rounds of votes, a group of Republicans had made clear that Jordan did not have enough support to win the speaker’s gavel. With House functions at a standstill, lawmakers can now move forward on a proposal to expand McHenry’s powers.

I'll stay tuned for your commentary on this.

Hey and fwiw... and you ain't gonna like this lol.... because I know you like him... but you have to look at the average American. Know what your boy Youngkin is missing? No one knows who the f he is. And that is not a slam on you.... but Americans love the popularity game. He could be the holy grail... but in this day and age.... he's toast without a strong social media buzz. If he can get the bucks and overcome that.... his Nov 7 coming out party might work. Odds are, it's not happening though. Ask your run of the mill pub to pull his face out of a lineup.... pretty sure they can't. You give people too much credit assuming they are as into this stuff as you are. Which is a a compliment by the way.

How about you stay on topic, keep rants away.

Ya know.... it is like that article you posted yesterday. About the wives receiving death threats or whatever. . It was 1000% left leaning. You can find anything on the web to suit your narrative.

Up next.... Elon demands two factor identification for $1 accounts.

Yesterday, I voted to support Jim Jordan’s candidacy for Speaker of the House. I voted for Jim Jordan for the greater good of the House Republican party, based on our Conference meeting and the test Speaker ballot that was cast earlier this week.

However, after one round of votes, with my support, he was not able to secure enough votes for the Speaker nomination and my initial concerns about threatening tactics of Jim Jordan’s supporters, including from members of Congress, increased despite assurances.

Today, it became abundantly clear early in the roll call vote, that Jim Jordan still did not have the votes necessary to become Speaker. Given the concerns I had before any vote and the ability of the speaker designee to unify the conference, I voted in support of Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Kay Granger to serve as Speaker of the House. I voted for Chairwoman Granger because she has demonstrated great leadership this year by bringing forth, and passing, fiscally responsible, single-subject appropriations bills and is a staunch conservative.

However, since my vote in support of Chairwoman Granger, I have received credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls. The proper authorities have been notified and my office is cooperating fully.
