I'm curious how much spam everyone gets via their e-mail. I literally get 100+ spams each day on an e-mail account that has been active since 1995. It has gotten so bad, that I've just decided to get a new primary e-mail account and abandon the old one.

I can't believe how much e-mail spam there is going across the internet. This must take up HUGE amounts of bandwidth over the major backbones.

it has gotten worse the last couple of months.

and I am also considering abandoning my old email address
for some relief.

I meticulously unsubscribe from each and every mailing list I get on. I have a separate junk mail address for when I go surfing or make purchases. I never save cookies...and always a little Spam comes through. I thought there was some legislation in the works to get rid of it, especially the pornographic stuff because of the kids seeing it. I have noticed since that "do not call" list came out, I have far less junk calls. Maybe it will help to get less Spam too. It is really an invasion of my privacy. :mad: :eek:

By unsubscribing from "each and every mailing list" what you're doing is confirming to the spammer that your email address exists and you're reading your email. This is precisely how your address gets spread around to other spam lists.

Besides software that prevents your viewing of spam emails, once it's actually in your inbox it's too late to do anything about it. Just delete it at this point and forget it. Unless you know of the company that sent you the email (and know that they're legitimate), responding to their fake "click here to be removed from our mailing list" only exacerbates the problem.

I have a yahoo account and I just tag all the stuff that looks like spam and report it to them with a click or two, not much effort really, and the spam has steadily reduced from a peak of perhaps 25 a day to less than 5.

I hope that legislation goes through to outlaw spam but look how many decades it took to get the phone sales people to go away.
