I wish I was as confident as you are that the terrorists understand that the Dem's attacks are just craven political attacks on a wartime President and not symbolic of a widespread desire to surrender. I fear however that you are making the mistake of projecting your own sophisticated understanding of our process onto people who see things very differently. They view us as soft and cowardly and terminally weakened by our corrupt and immoral society.

I'm not saying a vote for a Dem is a vote for terrorism. I do think the single most important issue in the campaign is how we deal with this threat. So far, Kerry has offered nothing constructive and much to generate doubt about his capacity or vision to lead the fight. At the same time, Bush's record is mixed at best. The plans for the Iraq occupation bordered on criminally incompetent, and many of you will recall that KymerFye and I debated it at length. So far, I believe I was correct in my fear that a "soft" occupation that allowed terrorists room to operate and generated dozens of body bags would be a political disaster for the President.

So you believe Islamist terror groups in places like Indonesia and the Phillipines are motivated by hatred of Israel? And that they will lay down their weapons if we allow Israel to be overrun?

The formation of the modern state of Israel was a messy process, with a lot of innocent blood on the hands of Israeli terrorists. That is not anti-semitic, it is fact. But that does not in my judgment warrant just turning over the country to the Arabs. From an historical perspective, the Israelis have at least as much right to that land as the Muslims. Why is the enlightened solution to every dispute with Islam that Christians and Jews should just yield to whatever they want? At some point we will have to make a stand. Better to do it in the Middle East than here.

I'd like to see documentation to support this line. I agree with you on the remainder of the post. I'm not saying I disagree with this line but I want proof of some sort. As far as I know the jews bought their land from the moslems, and were then attacked by the moslems. Jews kicked shit out of the moslems in the six day war, but actually gave some of the war acquired land back to those moslem idiots. A lot of land.

You should see the reports on the big increase in saferooms here in Brasil, esp. Sao Paulo. Gun laws are lax, drug related crimes are high, police are brutal and corrupt .. sound familiar ? ;-)
Well, I guess one thing out of the oridnary are the number of cars which are fitted to be bulletproof and even bombproof ...

It doesn't make for a very nice kind of leisure life, does it (except the beaches are absolutely great for wind-/kite-surfing etc) ? The threats of criminals - terrorists and alike do not make for a very fun society, and the real issues needs to be resolved.

You can't surrender. If the US evacuated Iraq, after the imminent Spanish withdrawal, the blackmail by Al Queda would only further increase. The Islamic miitants would be emboldened, gain greater popular support among Muslims which may even topple regimes in the Middle east, granting the militant states under which to operate and maybe even form a pan Arab-Muslim confederation with large armies, control of most of the world's oil, and an accelerating nuclear arms program.

Now that would be a disaster for the world.
