Something to Think about - 2003

Quote from lindq:

It is difficult for any strategy, even a good swing strategy, to beat a net gain of 45% with no trading costs or associated hassles.

I think that instead of looking back at sour grapes, the bigger question is, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THIS YEAR SINCE 1.1.04?

The market has run overall flat thus far this year, with decent volatility, and that's an excellent test of you and your system. And IMO, if you haven't made good money this year, you should feel worse about that than not clocking 45% in 2003!

Ironically, 2004 I did better than 2003. Maybe cuz I've grown tremendously as a trader. And 2004 is more of a daytrader market. Lots of intraday action. 2003, all you did was buy and hold and probably did better than most traders. Even including prof. hf using all their fancy mathematical "stat arb" type of strategies.

what a lot of people forget is that 2003's 45% gain only counted if you were OUT in 2001 and 2002

"buy and hold" performance must be qualified in that context
