Someone used my IB account to trade!!!

Quote from gurzilla:

Someone traded 2500 shares of INFX stock with my account and I was told by the IB customer service rep that I owned the trades/shares basically.
I asked him to look at the IP address and my account history so he could see that I only trade e-minis...
I asked what to do with the shares and he said they could not provide "advice" on what to do with them.
I asked if I will get my money back and they don't know, but he definitely left many open doors to get out of it.

My PC is VERY secure with hardware firewall; I tried all the scans out there to check for vulnerabilities and none where found...

What should I do?

No success yet

it was me.

sorry i was just mucking about. had i known it was your account i wouldnt have done it.

did you using SSL? if not-use it.
do you have wireless network?

I use SSL, no wireless network.

OK, I checked the log and there are no instances that show I placed the trades.

Thank you very much for this tip; I can now prove to IB that I did not perform these trades.

Again, I really appreciate your help.

i am glad that everything will be ok for you.

I was never asked about any logs by IB... As a matter of fact, I brought it up to them after receiving the tip on this forum.

Even after bringing it up to them, I was not asked to send the log or anything else...

Weird!

Sometimes the reps there are assholes. Not everyone by any means but some really are. Sorry IB but it's true. You should work more on monitoring your customer service. I've had to deal with some big time morons/jerks. I put up with it because other than that I like the brokerage and I don't have to deal with customer service on a daily basis or anything. And some other people there are all right. The customer service reps at my bank are always really nice. Every single time. No excuse for bad behavior. At least Steve is stepping forward to help you out. That's the way it should go down. Good luck.

lack of knowledge, refusing to answer the question asked, bluffing an answer, giving out erroneous information are more serious
than boorish behavior.
we are very lucky to have steve and other people from IB on this board to
handle SPECIAL problems which customer service people are incapable of handling or are unwilling to take the time and effort to solve.

there is an obvious need for a bulletin
to explain how to handle similar situations. a clear policy is needed on the question of closing the position.

Probably because they were into the guts of their own systems by then. Also I suspect that logs can be altered and probably have been in the past --- funny what people will do for a buck.

how did the shares end up in your account? did someone access your computer or were the shares accidentally dumped into your account at the other end.
