Somebody tried to rip off my IB account and wire money to New Zealand

I think you underestimate the seriousness of this matter. If you want to have all your money robbed - fine.
Stop wanking, man. It's "required" by the law of almost any non-third-world nation. That still doesn't give you excuse to blame IB for your own stupidity, and on top of that call me a "jackass", thank you very much for your consideration.
Jesus, go to insult me and in the same toke make a monkey out of yourself. The reason YOU call me a jackass is because I'm straightforward, which you don't like because you're arrogant, self-righteous, naiive and lack precaution. How is this for a joke:
Shall I ROFL or just cry? Wake up man, Norton AV is only 3% of protection. You talking about "just yesterday I scanned with an updated..." LOL! Listen, buddy: You should not even have to worry about that. Your Norton AV should be set to download new updates automatically every day, AND scan your computer for viruses, automatically, every day. Stop doing the silly things manually, and use the time for the more important things instead.
Oh, and just FYI: If you think Norton is going to find every leak or bug out there, you're wrong, wrong wrong. Try PestPatrol or even just ad-aware, you might be in for a surprise.
Sigh. You should not even consider even visiting sites other than IB on your TRADING COMPUTER. Let's not even talk about downloads! You downloaded stuff to it? Good morning!
Get a separate computer that has installed:
- Charting
- Execution
- Possibly Browser for IB or other SSL websites. Fully restricted settings.
- Nothing else.
Do not download stuff onto your trading computer, do not install stuff on it (also for other reasons, such as performance and stability), and particularly do NOT communicate over it.
This isn't paranoia stuff, buddy, this is good common sense.
Any decent hacker has at least separate, unconnected hard drives for online-stuff and non-online stuff.
Get a life man. Stop bugging me and despising me for well-meant advice. And don't complain if you get robbed again.

Actually, I think many people are somewhat paranoid over security on the net. I have had, to the best of my recolection, only 1 virus in all the years of myself owning a computer. That occured eleven years ago, my CS professor gave me a disk that was infected. It turned out to be a complete disaster as everything was lost. Since then, I have never been a victim of any of these so news making viruses or any unkowns. For precisely the reason, I typically am carefull and only download stuff from what I think are reputeable sources. I fucked up once or twice; I can think of one or two things in the past year from sites which aren't, shall I say, from established incorporated enterprises. The simple matter of fact is, if you are careful, you have no need to hide in a Cheyenne mountain.
So, I guess you agree with the mullahs, if a woman shows a little to much skin she deserves to get raped?
I'm not even mad at IB nor do I blame them for my stupidity. They deserve criticism for making things so easy for wire fraud. These are two seperate events. Sure, blame me for being a dumbass for getting hacked, but nobody is really 100% secure anyways. IB shouldn't assume that all their customers go to the levels that you suggest. I have no doubt you will never be hacked, but that's my point above. The best tool is to surf smartly.

I still will not run these things continously. You presume that I don't run these things at all? You see that's the difference between my arrogant jackassity and yours. Mine gives me a more personal fullfillment, you need to share yours with others.
You will be happy to know I happened to purchase a new laptop last week which was going to become my trading computer(pure coincidence, I might add).

I want to say though that my criticism towards IB is directed at this feature in their business model. Despite what it may seem, I think IB(and Timber Hill, I don't think I would have lasted as long on the floor without them) is a tremendous firm that has given traders a lot they wouldn't have had with out it. And in fact, my original post wasn't very critical of the firm at all. It was merely to make people aware of what could happen and to illustrate to IB, especially after Mishka's exeprience, that these things happen and the procedures should be changed. Obviously, many IB customers read this board and I presume will seek remedies, as reps of IB have posted, that are available. I will still maintain my account at IB.

i'll confirm he doesn't work for tradestation, but I respectfully disagree with the assertion that IB is at fault and given that a rep spent an hour on the phone on the initial contact, I think shows the gravity that we place on such issues.
Unfortunately, identity theft is becoming more common. Anyone using the internet needs to take proper precautions. We're doing what we can on our end to provide the best possible protection but security is a two way street.
One other security measure that I believe many clients may not know about and that I'd like to repeat is that you can set a hardwired IP address for your TWS to run. You can set this via account management.

I agree with both of you, but the middle ground almost always lies inbetween.
We could all live in nice safe bunkers -like moles.....or we could swim in shark infested waters rubbed in chum. Neither is the best idea.
