Among America's gun violence incidence in the past couple of days: Three people died and two others were wounded Wednesday in Downey, California, after being shot by a gunman who is still at large (link); a 24-year-old Navy sailor was shot and killed in Baltimore on Wednesday night (link); three people were wounded in separate shootings in Chicago on Wednesday (link); and a man was shot and killed Wednesday while leading a prayer service in an Atlanta church (link)
Also, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health released a report today on gun violence. Among its findings:
* Easy access to firearms with large-capacity magazines facilitates higher casualties in mass shootings.
* "Right-to-carry" gun laws do not reduce violent crime.
* Prohibiting high-risk groups from having gunsâcriminals, perpetrators of domestic violence, youths under age 21, substance abusers, and those with severe mental illnesses â and closing loopholes that enable them to have guns are integral and politically feasible steps to reduce gun violence.
