Some 37 yo chick gets CEO job at Yahoo

Quote from ChkitOut:

i think bing powers yahoo search so they aren't even in the search algo business anymore. i think they just split ad revenue with microsoft.

didn't know that, thanks.

Yahoo will never play catchup, they think they can outsmart google by taking one of their executives....doesnt work like that... yahoo will never be worth as it was years back and on top of that they should have taken the microsoft deal that was given to them years ago.

If memory serves me correct, wasn't it a bunch of men who blew up the global financial system? And of those who saw it coming and called it right, wasn't one of the most outspoken(and correct) a woman?

In my experience smart women are very discriminating so I'm not surprised many ET'ers haven't known one.

The same can be said of trading.

I would posit that successful management has less to do with luck than successful trading.

There are CEO's who consistently grow, build, or turnaround companies.

EDIT: In the middle market space, management is judged by how they navigated 2008.

In all fairness, during the credit bubble, alot of things worked that are not going to work going forward.

1) "Lack of women means that men are better more often than women, and that women are less interested."

Are you lacking intellect? This is the very issue we are discussing. You repeat this same dumb statement without any backup or proof making is sound like its an undeniable fact which it is clearly not.

2) "If I tried to bring my lard ass on the runway showing off Gucci's new line, I'd be laughed off stage. Can you think of a male model? I cannot, but I can name several female ones though. "

Your comparison also points to you not really comprehending the issue here: We are not talking about gender inequality because of lack of certain skill sets to get a specific job done. There is a clear majority of men among construction worker because most women wanting to work in this job do not possess the physique to get the job done. That is a fair comparison with your model example but it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with a lack of gender equality in fields where women are equally skilled and qualified as male peers but they are kept outside for other reasons which is PRECISELY the issue under discussion.

3) I appreciate you are an American, but I guess I appreciate less your obvious ignorance to look beyond your local realm. Let Tim Cook proof himself while Merkel has been voted one of the most powerful politicians in the world for several years in a row and certainly as THE most powerful woman in the world several years in a row. You may be America centric, which is ok, but comparing a CEO of a company with someone who is steering an economically top performing country through this current mess lacks any reason.

4) Provocation, yes, that seems what you are all about.

5) You lack reading comprehension skills definitely disqualifying you from jobs where close attention is asked for. I stated I am not a woman. Back to your day trading job, big boy with big balls.
I'm sorry about the fuss, really. I was trolling a little. :( I don't know if you think women are still given unequal chance today, but I don't think so.

I'm not American. I guess you are German. My Merkel statement was just silly. cheers

no worries, and yes I think some work places provide very unbalanced opportunities even today. I have worked for many years on the investment banking and hedge fund side and I myself got very tired of having to listen to the ever repeating chick chasing stories even by 38-45 year olds who still have not managed to settle down. No issue with that itself but do they have to bore everyone else and offend women with their sometimes utterly ridiculous stories? Some are funny I admit but many are tasteless and outright boring. I guess if one makes a pact with the devil one can even laugh about killing others. Life is all about conditioning I guess....

she was vice president of local and maps, where she "oversaw" (see: let smart people do all the work) product management, engineering design and strategy for the company's geographical products, including Google Maps, Google Earth, Zagat and Street View

like i said.. getting coffee.

Being a good leader is about manipulation and making people perform and following direction given. Odds are she can and will get her way at Yahoo. I remember when she did an interview on CNBC with Maria B. She managed to put Maria B. in her place and command the conversation. Silcon Valley has had it share of female CEO. She will probably due better than trucker mouth Carol Bartz. The people who rise to the top of the corperate ladder are usually the most cunning.

That's just not true. ET'ers know lots of intelligent, articulate women who are capable of snappy repartee ... ET'ers don't get what the women are saying ...... and they have been turned down by every single one of them .... but they do know them.... :D
