This whole piracy thing is embarrassing. How pathetic is it that the world's navies, with all the billions spent on them, can't defeat a bunch of half-starved somalis in old fishing boats? We board ships in international waters all the time for drug interdiction. Why not take the same approach? Any suspicious looking ship that leaves somalia gets intercepted and boarded. If there are weapons, the boat and crew are seized for suspicion of piracy.
I am also getting sick of hearing the navy guys wail that it is a big ocean. We have airplanes, the pirates don't. We have satellites, they don't. The Saudis have AWACS planes. We can track every rowboat that leaves the somali coast.
