Software platform for Bright

I sent this to Don, but wanted to post here so people could add suggestions.

1. Make Redi compatible with all major video cards. With my Matrox card Redi loads to only one monitor.
2. Although I don't use many charts, Redi charts are pathetic. Nasdaq traders need them.
3. Ability to have "average price" column in top section of Position Monitor. This would be especially helpful for overnight positions when your P&L is erased from the previous day.
4. Redi needs to provide a symbol list, or symbol lookup either in Redi, or on the Redi website.
5. In the Order Hotkeys setup the only options available are +.05 or -.05 above or below bid/ask. I want to customize it to use whatever +/- I prefer.
6. The ability to have Redi load as one entire program with many windows "inside" the program. Right now the program clutters up the taskbar. This should be an optional choice.
7. MOC should be a choice in the pull-down menu from the montage order entry bar...everything else is there so why not?
8. Redi should have bullets. Dealing with another program is a hassle and slow.
9. On the montage you should be able to click a mm/ecn/specialist to tell redi how to route your order. Clicking the price will still set the price, but clicking participant will auto-load routing preference.

That's all I can think of right now. EVERY single option listed here is available in Redi's competition so no excuses! ;-)

Sure, whenever we have problems, we work on them....thanks for pointing out how hard we work to keep our traders happy!!

Now to Dustin: I spoke with our newly added Redi Tech (several years with Redi)....

sent this to Don, but wanted to post here so people could add suggestions.

1. Make Redi compatible with all major video cards. With my Matrox card Redi loads to only one mnitor.

We'll call you about this, we should be able to do it with "most" cards.

2. Although I don't use many charts, Redi charts are pathetic. Nasdaq traders need them.

Send me an idea of what else you would like/need to see. We have all the indicators, dual stock/index/ volumes and up to a year of data. (We could use a 5 and 10 year chart).

3. Ability to have "average price" column in top section of Position Monitor. This would be especially helpful for overnight positions when your P&L is erased from the previous day.

Good idea, we'll discuss it with Redi.

4. Redi needs to provide a symbol list, or symbol lookup either in Redi, or on the Redi website.

You will have this very soon (Kent says it was about done before he left SLK to join us).

5. In the Order Hotkeys setup the only options available are +.05 or -.05 above or below bid/ask. I want to customize it to use whatever +/- I prefer.

This too is about to be added, again done when Kent left SLK.

6. The ability to have Redi load as one entire program with many windows "inside" the program. Right now the program clutters up the taskbar. This should be an optional choice.

I'm told that it was designed this way on purpose, so that you can more easily have several screens up. If it was one program, like excel, with seperate tabs, then you would have to futz around with them.

7. MOC should be a choice in the pull-down menu from the montage order entry bar...everything else is there so why not?

This is a Compliance Issue, we used to have that option...but with the rule changes they took it off....we'll see about getting it added back.
It's in the order window....most traders don't even use a montage...but should be an easy fix.

8. Redi should have bullets. Dealing with another program is a hassle and slow.

Doubtful at this point, I keep my running all day...takes no time to use.
Since bullets are done by a whole different "ouside" vendor.

9. On the montage you should be able to click a mm/ecn/specialist to tell redi how to route your order. Clicking the price will still set the price, but clicking participant will auto-load routing preference.

Mine does that now. If I click on BRUT, Isld, Arca, whatever, it pops up in my "exchange" window. Maybe you need to be activated for this....let me know...call me tomorrow.

That's all I can think of right now. EVERY single option listed here is available in Redi's competition so no excuses! ;-)

Thanks for the input....Dustin...I will pass it on to the Redi people. We have just added someone in our Vegas office from the Redi Tech department in Chicago....so we will be seeing a lot of cool stuff in the next few months...

Just another redi tidbit for u guys. Today, I am long two positions and went to cover both. Put in the two orders, and the two orders went in the message screen and had a UC on them. UC means unconfirmed. It took about 5 to six seconds to change to an open order. I went to nx stock that was available, and by the time the uc changed to open, i missed the window and ths spoo turned. Lost 1000 bucks in a few seconds. This delay was happening with a few of my orders this morn and it ruined my morning. I was not the only one in the office either. This was not a connection or in house problem because we called REDI and they said we are working on the problem. This has been happening on and off in the past couple weeks. I wish people would stop defending Redi as if its the holy grail. Redi gets the job done but lets admit there are some major flaws occuring and the support is terrible. We had some of the redi guys come down and they were real nice but even they said that they had a lot of problems getting things done and fixed because of the beauracracy. Oh by the way, the outcome of the error is I have to eat the loss and "they are working on it" thanks a lot.

One thing that happens to me is if I keep a ready bar chart open and leave it running for long enough between symbol or time frame changes, the chart eventually freezes. The big problem is that you might not even realize it froze for a while depending on the scaling. If you change the bar length or symbol, the chart will refresh and start working again. This doesn't happen with tick charts.

Are you saying they would make more money on the day, or they would actually out trade someone on say a percentage return on equity on another platform?

Because if, you you either capped the traders buying power or restricted the maxium share size to say 500 shares which is typical of what we nasdaq traders trade, and had a tradeoff between your best guy on redi+ and some scalper using watcher, or realtick, etc.

My money is on the guy with realtick, watcher or something else.

I have traded on 6 different systems. (cyber, gr8trade, sterling, redi+, realtick, and tradecast). I would take any of the five and literally start the day -500 if I had a choice between doing that and trading with redi+ again. I am dead serious.

And that is the point. No one is saying that traders can't make boatloads of cash using redi+. We are fully aware that there are million dollar a year guys doing it. But they are doing it in a different style than I and others trade.

Sure we could switch styles....but some of us spent a lot of money developeding our style of to the point that we make money. Why should we have to adapt to a trading platform....we pay thousands of dollars in commissions. For that amount of money, I expect a platform that meets my needs.

Like someone else posted here....the guys developing that thing just don't seem to care. I have called them too with ideas....I wasn't told to take a hike, but I was told, "yeah well, I'll mention it them". What does that mean....they will mention it when...over beers on friday afternoon, after I have lost another 500 bucks because a chart froze up or because I couldn't watch my positions better because the software can't even tell me what I am today only if I held the postion overnight (it aggregrates everything...if you buy GS for example...and make 2483 bucks in it...then put the position on in the afternoon again....it won't show you what you are up or down in GS since you put the "LAST" position on. Wouldn't you think that is IMPORTANT!!!

What this thread mostly seems to be about is that redi+ and other platforms as well simply do not get the job done for some of us (mainly nasdaq traders) that have different needs (speed of execution, the ability to quickly set server side buystops and sell stops, add alerts alerts, and manage multiple positions, and overlay charts, and toggle between different time frames, and....hell I would continue but it would take hours to list the shortfalls).

redi+ works best when combined with another platform such as firstalert, AT Attitude or something which is able to make up for some of its deficiences. (sp?). Even redi+'s defenders will redi (ly) pun intended, admit this.

If anyone reading this is a NASDAQ SCALPER making good (>100K yr) money and uses rediplus, please show up and post how the hell you are doing it. Seriously I would like to hear from a nasdaq scalper that does well using it.

you are a better trader than me because I don't think I could do it.

Thanks Don, I look forward to improvements. You've been helpful on numerous occasions since I joined Bright and I appreciate it.

I used Redi
I click on buy button, Redi excuted sell short.
I click on sell button, Redi excuted buy more shares.
This was the worst software I have ever seen.
Don't even mention about their lousy chart which requires clicking on update button every 3min. Their technical support says "That is the way it is. They can not do anyting about it."
Also, the delayed quote, executions, etc.
Instead of try to hide the bugs & other problems, Try to fix in real!
The only reason propfirm use this software is that this is the cheapest thing they can get.

nylord1,

When I used to trade on Redi we used to call that 5-second delay from when you send an order to when it gets confirmed a "blue ringer", because the button would indent and have a slight blue ring around the edge and stick there for a few seconds. It makes sending multiple orders and layers next to impossible. I trade NYSE only, but I would imagine that it what really pisses the Nasdaq traders off about Redi. But for myself too doing heavy scalping I would also be pissed and those delays would cost me sometimes more than it cost you.

I have to insert a plug for Echotrade because with them I have NO BLUE RINGERS. Now I trade on Sterling, when I click an order it is confirmed in the same second, and NX fills are awesome. I also got my hands on a demo of ECHOtrader 2 and it looks great. It does not trade live yet (I have been messing with it in demo mode for about a week), but they say the fills are just as good. Can't wait to see that in action too. Sterling's charts are not the best, but ECHOtrader 2's are great.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program, "Don and Gene discussing why everyone should trade on Redi.":)
