Software development cost?

Hi Gonz,

This is where a pro comes in. Because frankly...I just trade. Start to get in tech jargon and i`m lost. For what is worth..one person told me that the platform i`m using for this system (OpenE-cry) excel was not the way to go. Said "stand alone" was probably the best bet.

OpenE-cry's API is in C#, which is one of the easiest programming language.

Actually, i have done something similar to what you have described but its for IB's API, thus not applicable.

Its preferable to look for someone who has the domain knowledge and has program with OpenE-cry API before. Not to worry, you should able to find it as C# programmers are abundant.

For a rough guide based on the features described, the development cost is USD2-3k approx. Just post your requirements to Rent-a-Coder site and maybe u will get some response.

Have you used the Openquant product? I may be able to write that code myself. Looks very similar to the script for AIQ systems TEP...which I used to use for end of day systems.

I agree with this. There are lots of fly by night developers & lots of them that want to learn to trade but I wouldn't use one of them as they generally seem to be unreliable.

If you are trading through OEC (I am as well) then you should be able to get something written in OpenQuant that will be fairly easy to write & wont be re-inventing everything.

2-3 seems reasonable.

Thanks again Gonz. You have shared some good info.

I have not yet used it on a live system, but have a copy of it that I am using in developing a system.

There are a lot of threads on the positives & negatives of the product out there.

I think it should do what you want it to do.

Can someone tell me how much I can expect to pay for development of a stand alone program?
Basically it would go like this : Manual entry....then I release a group of OCO orders thru the application to my front end.
A - Sell stop mkt when (issue) goes bid (price).
B - Sell limit @(price).
C - If nothing done by (time), cancel open orders and sell at mkt.
All (variables) will be adjustable prior to release.
Rough idea as to $$$? Hourly charges..flat rate? I have never commissioned a project like.
I am aware of regular OCO`s built in...etc They are useless for the issues I trade as the inside moves points without printing.

Flashy. But does it trigger trades based soley off bid/ask changes in ES options and allow time based OCO`s?

Pimp away...I aint afraid. :D

Taking a look now.

Thanks much,
Chris.

Hi...

I'm a software developer and I'm willing to spend some time on it just out of curiosity... as long as you are willing to walk me through it (and explain me about it, of course...)...

Who do you communicate with, what's the API? how do you get the data, do you graph something, etc...

I work on C++ most of the time but Java, C# or the pseudo-languages in some applications should be simpler so that wouldn't be a problem...

If I were going to do it for money, I wouldn't accept less than a few k's, probably 5k... (but I live in Switzerland so... )

Cheers

I say baloney.....Excel only breaks-down when there are dozens of symbols that need to be tracked in realtime....or sub-second scalping is the strategy.
As you can see: ALWAYS GET SECOND OPINIONS.
OEC uses DDE in their Excel implementation....it's not as good as RTD, but it's usable unless (see above).

Thanks for the offer. But I would feel more comfortable working with someone domestically.

Good trading to you!
