German Cars? Shame on you, you call yourself ethical? Trading a stock is one thing, but supporting other countries with your money seems more relevant to being ethical. JMO
Hardly the way I see it. When I was in high school and college, virtually NO ONE owned cars that were NOT made in the USA. An imported car was an MG or a Triumph. And of course, the Volkswagen (which became immensely popular...they didn't break....a total novelty).
But we found out in the early 70's or so, that for less money, you could buy a car that was actually put together by workers who cared. And for less money. Japanese cars.
So American auto makers decided to try and implement "quality controls" in their manufacturing process. So American cars would be better. More dependable. Hold tier value better.
Still waiting.
If I can buy an equivalent product "made in the USA" to a foreign product, that is my preference.
But am I being "patriotic" by buying an American car that will fall apart and become worthless? I have 2 kids in college. When they come home, I rent cars for me and my wife. American cars.
Glad I only have them for a week or two at most.
Maybe I am more "patriotic" by NOT buying American made pieces of junk. Maybe eventually we will start producing a competitive product. So far, it seems like it's too much trouble for American manufacturers.
Used to be a lot of American made TV's. No more. Cameras? Watches? None at all anymore.
America has abandoned it's "smokestack" economy. So maybe that's the plan.
Why buy a product built with planned obsolescence? I see 10 and 15 year old Mercedes and Japanese cars on the road all the time. Not Chevys. They are all in the scrapyards.
BTW, I own INTC and HPQ in my personal (non trading) accounts.
Not doing very well. But red white and blue.
Peace,
