Socialism for the Rich and Capitalism for the Poor !

No, I get it's black and white if we go by a number and definition of what's a working body, I'm saying it shouldn't be and needs to consider the gray areas. In any case, how 'bout discussing the merits.

strawman arguments.
Has SNAP changed as of late? (I know it did during COVID). Why was this black and white SNAP cutoff ok 10 yrs ago but suddenly it's not? Because we need the workforce? Right off the bat, I disagree w/states having no input given cost of living and minimum wage restrictions by state.

should a bad policy not be changed because it's been a bad policy for a long time?

strawman arguments.

Maybe I'm not getting how it's a strawman. By ignoring the bill's purported virtues and injecting sweeping counterarguments against welfare cuts?

Yes, bad policy should be changed and I countered w/a life expectancy weighted age requirement (which may already be reflected in the 49yr threshold) but you called it a strawman.

Racism is an issue and it got worse under Trump. But this is not relevant to this thread.
one could argue POC are poorer and likelier to be impacted by curving SNAP thus making it "racist". I gave zghorner's meme a like because MSM does play up the identity politics instead of addressing policy quite often. "Look at this racist tweet by xyz (just don't look at CSPAN rn)"

Nah, msm just told you it got way worse.

MSM: "he's locking Mexican children is cages OMG he hates brown people!"

Sleep walkers: "OMG orange man bad!"

MSM: "He called it the China virus, he's obviously xenophobic"

Sleep walkers: "yassssss orange man bad"

Since this is going to go off the rails in a jiffy.

“He doesn’t have a birth certificate. He may have one, but there’s something on that, maybe religion, maybe it says he is a Muslim,” Trump told Fox News in 2011. “I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t want that.”

"Does Madonna know something we all don't about Barack? At a concert she said "we have a black Muslim in the White House."

"I heard he was a terrible student, terrible. How does a bad student go to Columbia and then to Harvard?" Trump said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I'm thinking about it, I'm certainly looking into it. Let him show his records."

“We need to take away children,” Mr. Sessions told the prosecutors, according to participants’ notes. One added in shorthand: “If care about kids, don’t bring them in. Won’t give amnesty to people with kids.”

“If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law,” Sessions said Monday at a law enforcement event in Scottsdale, Ariz. “If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border.”

“If you cross this border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you. It’s that simple,” Sessions added, describing the new policy as zero tolerance. “We are dealing with a massive influx of illegal aliens across our Southwest Border. But we’re not going to stand for this.”

“They’re coming here for a reason,” Kelly said of migrants fleeing violence in Central America. “And I sympathize with the reason. But the laws are the laws. But a big name of the game is deterrence.

Family separation would be a tough deterrent, Burnett noted.

“It could be a tough deterrent — would be a tough deterrent,”
Kelly replied.

No point on going over how "china virus" is xenophobic. You either see it or are tone deaf.

“Very fine people”

“Stand back and stand by”

And the whole riots (during which he gassed people so he could get a photo op holding a Bible upside down)

You are looking for reasons this policy is bad and you are reaching. Maybe your points are good. But this proposal is better than the status quo.

I've been done w/the GOP for a while and was done w/most when they were done w/democracy in 2020. So when I read about a bill like this, I think, oh another "performative BS" bill and it automatically goes on a scale.

On one side, realistically how much spending is this saving? How many jobs is this going to add? What will be the poverty/hunger increase vs not touching it?

On the other side I weigh the value of the politics in headlines. "GOP fights Bidenflation by curving reckless green new deal woke agenda", "Marxist dems vote against inflationary spending", "Dems entitlement policies are dragging this country down".

sux I see it that way but I didn't start it. FWIW, Dude seems far from the worst:

Just read the article’s explanation of the bill on its own merits. It makes sense.

Unfortunately The inflammatory headline makes it sound different. And the comment about SVB is laughable. A bunch of rich liberal techies saved and the article tries to blame that on the GOP

they're going all out to block poor people from getting their food stamps.
I don't think you meant ": "they're" (referring to the Fed) , you probably meant the "GOP [is]"

The Fed is a pretty big operation; yet so far as I know they are not yet in charge of food stamps. If they were, we might have to withdraw our deposits from failed banks in the form of an equivalent in food stamps. :)
