Federal spending on more than 80 low-income assistance programs reached $746 billion in 2011, and state spending on those programs brought the total to $1.03 trillion, according to figures from the Congressional Research Service and the Senate Budget Committee.

That is an incredibly ignorant post IMO. If you were at all familiar with the Mormons you'd know that their humanitarian efforts are second to none. Their welfare program puts the government welfare to shame. Their youth programs are eviable. If more people would give to organizations like this, the burden on the federal government would be much lower and we wouldn't be arguing about how to keep federal social programs solvent.
