So why Tesla didn't pick Poland for their European factory?

So what. Does he appear any happier to you than the average Joe? And I don't see the correlation between a billionaire and a crook. Some billionaires are crooks and sell shit quality and others are not. Elon is a rich crook. But I give him credit for having pushed EVs as a first mover. That does not make him to a Saint though. Bill Gates is, on the other hand. Pledging one's entire wealth for philanthropic efforts qualifies for Saint status. Elon does not even make a lowest rank in that segment.

It seems that you are easily impressed by money.

Elon laughing all the way to the billionaires bank sure doesn't fool.

How do they test? How come cars in some segments in a market like North America never make it into the rankings of other markets and vice versa even though such cars are marketed and sold globally? I get the impression that most of those reports are hugely biased and false and misleading. For example, I have never seen a Toyota 4Runner in any European suv safety and reliability ranking. The 4runner for example beats every new Landrover hands down in terms of reliability. Not that I claim to have seen all the European rankings but it makes me curious because it points to a completely misleading rankings on both sides of the Atlantic.

Another example of how biased even leading rankings are is here: https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2019-initial-quality-study-iqs

Yes you read right, all European makers ranked at jdpower below average, even Ford and Lincoln rank higher than Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Audi, VW. Lol. Really? When you read further they state the reason is issues with infotainment systems. So a Ford can break down on the road on average more often than a BMW but because some morons can't get their USB cable to work with the infotainment system Ford outranks BMW in terms of reliability? Totally skewed way to assess reliability in my book.

4Runner is not sold in Europe as are other models that are in US. Same reason why a Toyota Avensis doesn't exist anywhere in US reliability reviews. I think they have some minimum requirements for units sold as well.
TÜV is well regarded and based on cars sold in Germany.

I suggest you look at people on Youtube who deal in used cars, BMW used to be the worst, old 7-series were sold below Corolla prices because they had so many problems (serious engine problems).

So, the 4runners driven in Europe are all after market imports? Well, perhaps anecdotal evidence on Youtube is all we have to get an impression. I don't know what BMW model years you refer to but I don't think newer model years suffer from serious engine problems. Re electronics I don't think comparing a 7 series with a base Hyundai with a body, 4 wheels and an engine is a fair comparison. Which Hyundai models have level 5 parking modes and all the other features a 7 series has? Per your own link the less features the more reliable holds generally true. The less breaking parts the less chance things break. :D Hyundai usually plays it very safe with basic car concepts. They don't have any serious offroader nor luxury car in their segment outside of Korea. And in their standard segment I don't see how they run leaps around other comparable Toyota models, for example. They seem to try to fish for customers with their generous warranty and low pricing, some of which borders price dumping to gain market share.

Here is a gold example of the naive approach most ranking websites take:

https://repairpal.com/reliability/hyundai
https://repairpal.com/bmw

They state Hyundai on average has an annual repair and maintenance cost of close to 500 dollars while BMW amounts to almost 1000. That caused the website to place Hyundai on slot 4 among all manufacturers while BMW ended up on place 32.lol.of course they conveniently omit that BMW on average costs significantly more than a Hyundai and sports significantly more features and technology. If you compare an equally priced and equipped BMW with Hyundai I don't think the maintenance costs will be too different.

You can't compare a modern mansion with high tech heating and air conditioning systems with a rancher style home with baseboard heaters.

4Runner used to be sold in Europe but that was 20 or more years ago. Now they're imports. There's exactly zero 4-Runners for sale on the website I checked.
Same goes with Escalades, TrailBlazers and RAMs - they exist but are imported from US.

Regarding BMW, they proof is in the price. If they are good cars with few issues, the used ones should go for a lot of money. But in reality the depreciation is very steep. Compare to say a Toyota Hilux which can have huge mileage and has depreciated very little.
And I'm not talking about minor electronic issues with BMWs, they have a high mechanical failure rate. It doesn't mean it's all models of all years but more than a few.

Hyundai has a serious luxury offering from Genesis. Well, BMW and Audi also don't offer offroaders...

But TÜV isn't just another website and they're trusted with the results.

I still think that German cars are great pieces of engineering and they perform very well in comparison.

This shop agrees.

The Truth of German Car Reliability: Facts vs. Myths
Posted on August 19, 2020 by Brian Boaté
...
When Consumer Reports first began its Long-Term Reliability and Initial Quality Index tests in 1972, German brands like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz would usually come out on top. The initial quality ratings for even the VW Beetle topped many US domestic vehicles from manufacturers such as Ford, Jeep, Mercury and Pontiac.

But
However, as time went on, the competition began to catch up and the German brands’ focus on providing maximum performance and amenities led to increasingly complex vehicles and chinks started to form in the armor of the manufacturers from Deutschland.
...
So What Happened?
Despite these studies and consumer experiences, German cars are still widely revered for their luxury, high performance and technological innovations.

And a non-U.S. source agrees
Despite these changes over time, the myth of German automotive reliability has persisted strongly to this day. In a survey of more 750 people conducted by Warrantywise in the UK, Mercedes, Audi and BMW were all ranked by subjective consumer opinion in the Top 10 for Reliability.

Perhaps surprisingly, Warrantywise’s empirical data actually ranked those same manufacturers as 27th, 28th and 29th respectively.

His conclusion
There are plenty of great reasons to buy a car from automakers like BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen, but if reliability is your top concern, don’t be fooled by the myth of “German engineering”.

It is still unclear what you are referring to as a hidden agenda. Here is what i know about Soros.

He openly advocated, in Frankfort, for a complete European Monetary Union which would require that Germany agree to the Eurobond. He sees Germany as a stumbling block in that regard, and has said Germany should agree to the Eurobond or leave the EU monetary union. I think he is on the right side of that issue.

What he funds is an open book. Literally! He funds dissonant groups in authoritarian Eastern European Countries -- Russia, Hungary, etc., whose intentions are to oppose and disrupt the authoritarian governments in these countries. Naturally, he is hated by authoritarian Heads of State. It's reasonable to assume they are responsible for endless disinformation regarding Soros. To Soros's credit, he doesn't seem to care.

Soros is, so far as I can tell, what one could describe as a very liberal thinker. His family background is Jewish, but so far as I know he has never been a practicing Jew. Nor is he an apologist for the Jewish State, which at times he has been critical of. I have read much of what Soros has written , but I have yet to discover anything that might reasonably be described as a hidden agenda.

During the war in Bosnia, Soros was instrumental in getting fresh water to the citizens of Sarajevo whose water had been cut off. He has been credited with saving thousands of lives. He did this at his personal expense and with some personal risk as well. Sarajevo, so far as I'm aware is largely Bosnian Muslim (~2/3rds or maybe more) . The other religion practiced their would be some variant of Christianity (Serbs and Croatians) Soros's rescue of muslim Sarajevo would seem a strange act for anyone promoting "Jewish hegemony" as a "hidden agenda". Especially someone who so far as I can tell from his writing must surely be an atheist.

it's clear what they're talking about, same ol' shit w/a different paint job:

Some more anecdotal car shit FWIW. I've had my share of German cars. The best car in virtually every respect was a 1995 BMW 325. I now own, among my four present vehicles, a Porsche. But I doubt I will ever buy another German car unless it predates they date they started using soy based wire insulation. German engineers have know for years now that the soy based wiring harness insulation they use is a rodent magnet which has caused millions in damage, ask any insurance company. Yet they've steadfastly done nothing to remedy the problem. The don't deserve to sell another car until they remedy this very obvious problem with a very obvious solution.

Incidentally, the most fun to drive by far is my 1981 FIAT Spider 2000, and also in my eyes among the most beautiful body styles ever produced. It also keeps my mechanic busy. But he tells me its his favorite car to work on, and to drive. When he tests drives it, he doesn't come back for a long time!
